And, I could barely find a, dollar for a token
Hop in the train just to get where I'm goin
Po Po's after me I'm runnin like I'm smokin
Remember those days when I went to bed hungry
All I ever ate was white rice and honey
Big dreams in my head empty my tummy
Might crack a smile but ain't nothin funny
I remember playin over needles in the street
Everywhere I go and there was some part of me
Thirteen thirteen was, hookers and hoes
On 11th avenue sellin bodies for dope (Whoa)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Baby Cham's song Ghetto Story Remix are about the struggles and hardships that he and others have faced while growing up in the ghetto. The song starts with Alicia Keys and Baby Cham introducing their story and explaining how they've been through hell but are now looking to take things higher. The verses are then shared between Akon, Cham, and Alicia Keys, all of whom discuss their personal experiences growing up in poverty and violence.

Akon speaks about being born poor but finding his way up to the top and partnering with Puerto Ricans in Jersey before moving out to find more success. Cham then remembers the days when Hell was his home and when he and his mother slept on a big piece of foam. He recalls going to the streets when his mother was at work and running into friends who show him how to make money, get involved in fights, and enter into dangerous situations. Later on, he also remembers getting involved in robbing stores and getting into trouble with the police, but ultimately managing to climb out of poverty with hard work.

Alicia Keys talks about her experiences of being dead broke, not having enough money to eat well, and having to deal with police chasing her. She remembers feeling hungry, scared, and alone but having big dreams that would one day help her break out of poverty. The entire song is an introspective reflection on the struggles, hardships, and victories that come with growing up in poverty, and how resilience and a strong desire to succeed can help one overcome the toughest of circumstances.

I've been vibing to this tune for most of the day doing yard work and playing with my babies. All 3 versions. Gives me goosebumps and hopeful positivity. I tried mixing it up with I-Wayne, Junior Cat, Ninjaman and Beanie Man; all timeless hitters BTW and just kept coming back for more, like I'm some kinda hot, toxic relationship with the lovely, talented and sexy, Ms Keys...πŸ™ŠπŸ™‰πŸ™ˆ If she crazy, I'll love her. Yall just dont understand her.❀
