Only Those In Love
Baby Washington Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Moon beams pour but they're for
Only those in love
Love
My all
I would gladly give for a chance to live
In the world of love
Someone send the one
Give my heart to part of
Only those in love
Jealously my eyes
Watch the little dove
All day through cooing to
Only those in love
Love
My all
I would gladly give for a chance to live
In the world of love
Someone send the one
That I'm dreaming of
Give my heart to part of
Only those in love
In Baby Washington's song Only Those In Love, the lyrics portray a feeling of longing for love and a sense of exclusivity that can only be experienced by those who are in love. The song describes how the moon is only truly appreciated by those who are in love, suggesting that love can add an extra layer of beauty and depth to the world around us. The lyrics use the metaphor of a dove cooing to its mate to further emphasize the idea of love being a unique and intimate experience. Baby Washington's vocals add a sense of yearning to the lyrics, making it clear that this longing for love is deeply felt.
The song ultimately expresses a hope to find the one that the singer is dreaming of and to experience the world of love fully with them. The lyrics demonstrate an understanding that love is not something that can be forced or manufactured, and that it is a unique and precious bond that only those who have experienced it can truly appreciate. The song is a testament to the power of love to transform our lives and our perceptions of the world around us.

In the early and mid sixties Baby Washington was probably the premier solo female R&B singer. Her record label wasn't able to promote her properly. Her recordings have been sampled by many other artist. "Only those in Love" is one of her most soulful rendition. I do believe she is no longer with us, but her beautiful romantic music lives on. Thank You for post!

One of the most beautiful songs ever sung.

Baby Washington should have been a household name in music. I would be hard-pressed to name many singers who could bring so much emotion to their songs. I feel blessed to have grown up with these kinds of records, and they sound just as fresh today as they did all those decades again. Baby Washington, now in her seventies -- I hope she gets to read some of these comments and know how loved she is. And how her music still moves us.

I fell in love with this song when I first heard it in 1965 (?). It always brings tears to my eyes. If any one song can be used to define "soul," this is it. She's incredible. Thanks so much for posting this.

I agree.. A commonly overlooked Baby Washington track and it's one of her best.

One of my all time favorites. Β Miss Washington (Jeanette) had a wonderful, honest quality in her delivery. Β She was so underrated, and never got the promotion that some others did.
