Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head
Bacharach Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Raindrops keep falling on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothin' seems to fit
Those raindrops are falling on my head, they keep falling

So I just did me some talkin' to the sun
And I said I didn't like the way he' got things done
Sleepin' on the job
Those raindrops are falling on my, head they keep falling

But there's one thing i know
The blues he sends to meet me won't defeat me
It won't be long 'till happiness steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep falling on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red
Crying's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'

Because I'm free
Nothing's worrying me.

Overall Meaning

The song Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head by Burt Bacharach is a beautiful song that talks about the ups and downs of life. The lyrics talk about how the raindrops keep falling on the singer's head despite his complaints. He compares himself to a guy whose feet are too big for his bed, suggesting that nothing seems to fit in his life. The raindrops act as a metaphor for life's challenges that keep raining on him.

The lyrics then reveal how the singer talks to the sun, saying that he does not like the way the sun does things. He criticizes the sun for sleeping on the job, which causes the rain to fall on his head. However, the singer holds on to hope, knowing that the blues will not defeat him. He knows that happiness will soon come to greet him.

The song ends on a hopeful note, where the singer acknowledges that the raindrops keep falling on his head, but that will not make him cry or complain. And he is free because nothing is worrying him. The song is a beautiful reminder that we should not let life's challenges pull us down and that we should always hold on to hope.

I turned 50 today. I remember my mother singing this song to me as a little kid.

Same. I'll be 53 Wednesday and my boyfriend bought me the vinyl today. It makes me cry thinking about how fast life has gone by

@townshendshean

I used to sing this with my mom when I was a tiny litte kid. She'd play it on piano and I'd sing. Still love it 50+ years later! Hell, I've been playing guitar for 46 years now...maybe I should record my own version just for fun LOL!!
