… Read Full Bio ↴Bacilos was a latin music group based in Miami, Florida, United States.
The band was formed in 1995 by three students of the University of Miami and was named after the Spanish word for bacillus. Originally a quartet, the band drew influences from Cuban folk singer Silvio Rodríguez and Argentinian rock singer Fito Páez. The band eventually became a trio consisting of Colombian singer and guitarist Jorge Villamizar, bassist André Lopes and percussionist José Javier Freire before releasing an independent album Madera in 1999.
Bacilos signed with Warner Music in 2000. The selftitled album Bacilos was actually a re-edition of Madera and was nominated for two Latin Grammy awards and went gold in Colombia. The single Tabaco Y Chanel was widely played on Latin radio stations and the success of their major label debut earned them a slot as support artist on a world tour by Spanish artist Alejandro Sanz.
In 2002 Caraluna added to their reputation winning a Grammy for best Latin pop album and making the Billboard Latin album charts. Los pakistanís
Y los palestinos
Los israelís
Locos los ingleses
Y los irlandeses
Loca Venezuela
The lyrics of Bacilos' song "Locos" reflect on the diverse and chaotic nature of the world we live in. The songwriter lists different countries and nationalities, stating that all of them are "locos" or crazy. From the Indigenous peoples to Pakistanis, Palestinians, Israelis, English and Irish, Venezuelans, and Americans (with their Trump-Putin situation), everyone is portrayed as having some level of madness. The chorus emphasizes that the Tower of Babel, a biblical reference, represents humanity's attempt to be like God and have control over various elements such as water, wind, earth, fire, and rage. However, this desire for control often leads people to lose their sanity.
The song suggests that all people, regardless of their nationality or beliefs, are plagued by madness in equal measure. It criticizes extremism and radicalism, mentioning Chinese, Somalis, Sri Lankans, and the city of Medellín in Colombia as examples of places affected by this insanity. The lyrics convey a sense of frustration and confusion, calling for someone to explain the madness that surrounds us, but urging them not to lie.
