Sugg has come a long way from the being the little boy growing up in Tennessee that was once intrigued and inspired by the sheet music hidden in his aunt’s old piano bench. Always ready to accomplish a new challenge – Sugg began teaching himself how to play the piano at age 11. Soon after learning his first instrument, he found himself picking up an acoustic guitar and doing just the same. Now 23 years old, Sugg has gone on to master the drums, banjo, bass, and even the mandolin. The ever-evolving musician found his earliest musical creations channeling his biggest musical influence, Bright Eyes, and has since taken the emotionally sincere lyrical qualities of this inspiration and blended them with his own unique disposition of optimism and content.
In just five short years, the charismatic Sugg has used simplicity, sincerity, and smiles to gain the approval of the music world. In his short career, Sugg has already pumped out six EPs (many of them featuring a “full length” amount of songs), five annual holiday EPs, and one LP, Dressed Up Like Dreams. The non-stop production of music, touring, and self-promotion has certainly started to pay off - With over 500,000 song downloads on PureVolume, nearly 100,000 singles sold, and thousands of albums sold, it comes as no surprise that Backseat Goodbye has already found a place in the iTunes Folk Top 100 Album and Singles charts - multiple times, and has landed himself coveted sets at SXSW and CMJ, as well as a being a featured band in Alternative Press Magazine’s AP&R section.
Reminiscent of the high spirited vocals and positivism of The Rocket Summer and the polished, upbeat musicality of Eric Hutchinson, Backseat Goodbye has created a blend all his own, that immediately embraces the hearts, imaginations – and hope, of listeners around the world.
In the words of Sugg, Backseat Goodbye is “music for the hopeful, music for the kids with their heads in the clouds, and music by a kid that’s just as lost in life as everyone else.”

Best friends in the middle of the road or we could
Talk shit about tomorrow
And it how it never adds up
Well we could touch lips for the hell of it
It's a nice day and we're just kids
There's nothing to do anyway
In this town made for two
I don't know what you meant
But I know what you said
About the big nights
About the blue sky
And the indifferent way you talk about the past you like
Maybe you should write a book about it
Or a song that we'll all sing along to
With la da da I'm so damn glad you moved to the city
And that's too bad you lost what you loved
Ot's an ugly world but you can smile all you want
Well here we are in the back of your car
Our hands move to the beat of our hips
No one has to know the truth about this
We were "just out for a walk and a kiss or two"
I'll tell you girl you do a number on me
With those eyes I swear you stole from the sky
All I need, is you tonight
I don't know what you meant
But I know what you said
About the big nights
About the blue sky
And the indifferent way you talk about the past you like
Maybe you should write a book about it
Or a song that we'll all sing along to
With la da da I'm so damn glad you moved to the city
And that's too bad you lost what you loved
It's an ugly world but you can smile all you want
Won't you meet at the sidewalk if you want
I know you know the whole truth and nothing but the
Someone said you were leaving town soon
Well if so then I am too
Yeah we're a mess but that's fine 'cause it's me and you
Well we could climb trees and lay in their leaves
They won't mind as long as we ask nice
You won't mind as long as I ask nice
Or so i'm told
Well we could carve hearts out of falling stars
Chase the wind down the winding streets
Ride in cars for hours to nowhere
We're a mess, but that's fine, 'cause it's you and me
We're a mess, but that's fine
We don't need no time to keep up with the days
You keep telling your lies
I'll keep singing these shitty love songs
The lyrics of Backseat Goodbye's song Sidewalk Sing Along is a love song that expresses the tender and youthful emotions of two young lovers. The song begins with a suggestion that the two could take their relationship to the next level and "take off each other's clothes," but the mood then changes, and the lovers focus on talking and sharing their thoughts about life. Reference is made to the idea that things don't always add up, and sometimes it's hard to know the meaning of the conversation. However, they continue to get lost in each other's company, kissing and holding each other, enjoying their youthful innocence in a small town.
The second verse has the two lovers enjoying their time together in the back of the car, feeling the beat of the music, and nothing but each other in their world. They talk about how they feel about life and the past, sharing mixed emotions. The chorus repeats the idea that they do not know what the other meant, but they know what they said, highlighting the confusion and innocence of their love. The last verse is an invitation to explore the world together, to climb trees, carve hearts out of falling stars, and drive aimlessly to nowhere. The song emphasizes the beauty of their love, which allows them to get lost together in the world, forgetting about reality.
Backseat Goodbye's song Sidewalk Sing Along holds several important meanings and themes that add to its beauty. It emphasizes the innocence of young love, the magic, and excitement of being together with someone you love, and the exploration of the world, both in reality and in the mind. It also highlights the importance of communication in relationships and the beauty of getting lost in someone’s eyes.

We can either spend our time fooling around, or gossip about the future, how it never seems to make sense. Alternatively, we could kiss just for the fun of it, since there's nothing else to do in this small town where we're confined.
I don't know what you meant
But I know what you said

Ot's an ugly world but you can smile all you want
I don't know your intentions, but I understand your words about the great experiences you've had and the amazing blue sky, plus the casual way you talk about your happy past. It would be great to write a book or sing a song about it, where everyone else can sing along too. I'm happy you moved to the city, but I'm sorry you had to leave behind what you loved. The world can be cruel, but you can still smile all you want.
Well here we are in the back of your car
Our hands move to the beat of our hips
No one has to know the truth about this
We were "just out for a walk and a kiss or two"
I'll tell you girl you do a number on me
With those eyes I swear you stole from the sky

We're parked in your car, and our bodies move with the rhythm. No one has to know what we're up to, it's just a walk and some casual kissing. You're driving me crazy with those beautiful eyes, it's all I need to have an amazing night.
Won't you meet at the sidewalk if you want

Someone said you were leaving town soon
Well if so then I am too
Yeah we're a mess but that's fine 'cause it's me and you
Well we could climb trees and lay in their leaves
They won't mind as long as we ask nice
You won't mind as long as I ask nice
Or so i'm told
We can meet on the sidewalk if you want, you know what's really going on. Someone said you're leaving town soon, so if that's true, I'm going with you. We may look like a disaster, but that's okay because it's just us two. We can climb trees and lie down on the leaves, as long as we ask nicely. People won't mind if we're kind to nature, at least that's what they say.
Well we could carve hearts out of falling stars
Chase the wind down the winding streets
Ride in cars for hours to nowhere
We're a mess, but that's fine, 'cause it's you and me
We're a mess, but that's fine
We don't need no time to keep up with the days
You keep telling your lies
I'll keep singing these shitty love songs
We can have fantasies about carving hearts out of falling stars, and chasing the wind through the twisted paths. We can ride in a car randomly for hours, that's what makes us a disaster, but that's what makes us perfect. We don't need to keep up with the passing time, and you keep saying things that aren't true. But I'll keep singing these sweet but crappy love songs.
