Their debut album Darker Half was then released in 2011 through Reaper Records. The two following full-length albums Lost in Life (2014) and Bad to My World would then be released by Bridge Nine Records, a household name in the US Hardcore scene. The band announced their breakup in 2019, signing off with a final tour through North America, Asia and Australia. They played their last show on November 30, 2019 in Amityville, NY.
Stylistically, the band played a modernized version of the NYHC style pioneered by bands such as Sick Of It All or Madball.
At the time of the breakup, the band consisted of James Vitalo (vocals), Ricky Singh (guitar), Chris Smith (guitar), Danny Smith (bass), and John T. Lopez (drums).

You think I will just lay down to die?
Been fighting these uphill battles my whole life
I'm still biting these chains
Bite till they break
Chains break
Bite till they break
I won't just lay down to die
I won't just leave my world the way it is
You think I will just lay down to die
Been fighting uphill battles my whole life
I′ll rip up the hand you′re dealing me
I won't go through this life on my knees
I′m still biting
I'm still biting these chains
Bite till they break
Chains break
Bite till they break
I′m still biting these chains
I won't just lay down to die
So I′ll rip the hand that your dealing
I won't go through this life on my knees
I'm still biting to break these chains
I won′t just leave my world
The way it is
The lyrics of Backtrack's song, The Way It Is, convey a deeply personal and powerful message about fighting against the injustices and oppressive forces that exist within our society. The opening lines, "I can't just leave my world the way it is, you think I will just lay down to die?" suggest a sense of defiance, refusing to simply accept the status quo and instead taking a stand against the powers that be. The following lines, "Been fighting these uphill battles my whole life", indicate a long-standing history of resistance and endurance in the face of adversity.
The repeated refrain, "I'm still biting these chains, bite till they break, chains break, bite till they break", reinforces the idea of persistence and resilience in the face of oppression. The image of biting through chains, metaphorical or not, represents a willingness to endure hardship and overcome obstacles in order to achieve freedom and justice. The lines "I'll rip up the hand you're dealing me, I won't go through this life on my knees" further emphasize the determination to take control of one's own destiny and reject the hand that has been dealt to them.
Overall, The Way It Is is a powerful anthem of resistance and resilience that speaks to the enduring spirit of human courage and determination in the face of oppression.
