Originally formed as a jazz fusion ensemble under the name Mind Power, Bad Brains developed a very fast and intense punk rock sound which came to be labeled "hardcore", and was often played faster and more emphatically than many of their peers. The unique factor of the band's music was the fact that they played more complex rhythms than other hardcore punk bands, also adapting diverse guitar styles into their songs.
Bad Brains have released nine studio albums (one of which is entirely composed of instrumental versions of their early material). The band broke up and reformed several times over the years, sometimes with different singers or drummers. Since 1994, the "classic" lineup of singer H.R. (Human Rights), guitarist Dr. Know, bassist Darryl Jenifer, and drummer Earl Hudson has reunited, albeit performing sporadically.

Rock For Light
Bad Brains Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The opening lines of "Rock For Light" by Bad Brains set the tone for the rest of the song's message. The singer challenges someone who claims to want to live the truth to consider the future of the youth. There doesn't appear to be much hope for them, but there is a solution available for them - Jah, which means God in Rastafarian culture. The singer follows up with a call for peace, stating that they don't want war and they don't need violence. They only want what's right, which is peace and love.
The song's chorus, "We come to rock for light," is a call to action. Bad Brains wants to use their music to inspire people to take action and make positive changes in the world. Their message is clear - they want to spread love and hope, not hate and division.
Overall, "Rock For Light" is a song about hope and unity. It encourages listeners to think about the world they want to live in and to take steps to make it a reality. Through their music, Bad Brains seeks to inspire people to work towards a brighter future for everyone.
