Silver Blue and Gold
Bad Company Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In the beginning, I believed every word that you said,
Now that you're gone my world is in shreds
Oh, you loved me and left me,
You took all the things that I needed so bad,
I'm standing here wondering where is the love that I had?
Oh, give me silver, blue and gold,
The colour of the sky I'm told,
My ray-ay-ain-bow is overdue

In the beginning, yeah,
There was something of love that was mine,
Now that it's gone, whoa, I'm cryin'

Oh, the time that it takes for a love to grow cold is a wonder to me,
I'm walkin' around with my head hangin' down
Tell me where is she?

Give me silver, blue and gold,
The colour of the sky I'm told,
My ray-ay-ain-bow is overdue

Don't forsake me 'cause I love you
Don't forsake me 'cause I love you
Give me silver, blue and gold,
The colour of the sky I'm told
My ray-ay-ain-bow is overdue

Give me silver, blue and gold,
The colour of the sky I'm told
My ray-ay-ain-bow is overdue
Now, give me silver, blue and gold,
The colour of the sky I'm told
My ray-ay-ain-bow is overdue, yeah

Oh, don't forsake me 'cause I love you
Don't forsake me 'cause I love you, yeah

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Bad Company's song "Silver Blue & Gold" tell the story of a person who was deeply in love with someone but ended up being left heartbroken. At the beginning, the singer believed every word their lover said, but when they left, their world became shreds. They're left wondering where the love they had went and what happened. The time it took for that love to become so cold is a wonder to them, and they're left walking around with their head hanging down, hoping to find their lost love. They then ask for the colors silver, blue, and gold, describing them as the colors of the sky, and that their "ray-ay-ain-bow" is overdue. The last line repeats the plea for their lost love not to forsake them because they loved them.

The lyrics express deep emotions of love, loss, and longing for someone who left. The colors silver, blue, and gold represent the beauty and hope they once saw in their lover, and their "ray-ay-ain-bow" being described as overdue symbolizes the hope and desire for their love to return. The repeated plea not to forsake them because they love the person so much further emphasizes the strength of their feelings and their desire for their love to be reciprocated.

Heard this as a kid, loved it, eventually forgot it...

Years past, I grew up and took a 100% travel job when I was first married (couldn't pass up the money)...

There were a couple years around 04' and 05' where American Airlines played this during takeoffs and landings - brought back memories of my youth...

Now I hear it and think about just how much time I spent away from my wife and kids in those early years...

Enjoy the ride - it goes quick.

As i sit in my twilight , at 55
A disabled veteran, single father of 2 young kids.
This song , just reafirms the reality of how good the past was , 70s, 80s
And how much as a nation we have fallen .
Lord God this song hits a cord of yearning , i miss my Dad, my mom
Its a miracle , kids
Growing old, but its lonely
This song , is amazing and prefect in its yearning , sadness
God bless America....jesus we are waiting for your return
AMEN!!!!!

I'm 68 yrs old and grew up in the 70's. To this day, 70's artists are still the best music ever recorded!!!! Bad Company was and still is one of the best bands!! Never get tired of their music and brings back great times and FUN !!!

65 yrs old. Love this song!!! I haven't heard it in a long time. I understand the passion for this classic 70s music! I listen to some probably everyday, an am a little bit of a musician, too. I discovered a couple of bands here in the last few years that have been making great music for over 20 years! Let me introduce you to Nightwish, Delain, Lacuna Coil, Flyleaf, Beyond the Black and even some Joe Bonamassa band with Paul Rodgers, for example... enjoy! Don't be afraid to explore.

You sir , are correct !

I'm 40 so sort of discovering Bad Company for the first time around, although I knew Free well. I have a question - how on earth is Bad Company NOT talked about as one of the greatest rock bands of all time? Amazing melodies, vocals, musicianship. Why don't they have a bigger profile??

I think this is Bad Company's best song. It's unfortunate it sees so little airplay on classic rock stations. I love Shooting Star and Can't Get Enough of Your Love, but this song should be played way more.

@larvt

I totally agree with you
