1. Bad News are an British, spoof rock band, created for the Channel 4 television series The Comic Strip Presents.... Its members are Vim Fuego [Alan Metcalfe], vocals and lead guitar (played by Adrian Edmondson); Den Dennis, rhythm guitar (Nigel Planer); Colin Grigson, bass (Rik Mayall); and Spider Webb, drums (Peter Richardson).
Their first appearance was in 1983, in the first series of The Comic Strip Presents... (written by Edmondson, and produced by Michael White/Comic Strip Productions). The episode, Bad News Tour, took the form of a spoof rockumentary, in which the incompetent band is followed on tour by an almost equally incompetent documentary crew.
Coincidentally, it was in production at the same time as the similar film 'This Is Spinal Tap', which was released the following year.
The band made numerous promotional TV appearances including Channel 4's now iconic 80's music show 'The Tube' and the BBC's primetime talkshow 'Wogan'.
They initially released a self-titled album, consisting of thrashy rock songs interspersed with arguments amongst the band. Brian May of Queen produced the album, which included a cover of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody".
They also played a tour of theatres, universities and colleges as well as playing Reading Festival in 1987.They also had a suitably bad opening set at the Monsters of Rock festival at Castle Donington. This performance was featured in a second Comic Strip film, More Bad News, broadcast in 1988.

This album is intellectually superior to all other musical attempts at excellence. The sheer perfection and timing will likely never be surpassed. Language, used properly and in context for things like "the Last Hurrah" or Pete and Dud's "ad Nausea" soar high in the sky and belong in the history books as the greatest achievements that an artist can make for the benefit of effing swearing your head off and insulting people of all creeds for no reason at all

I was amazed to find out the actors themselves played all the instruments in bad news, Id always assumed it was session muscians or brian may, but apparently only one song had a guest musician (John Deacon). The rest were all played by the actors, including bohemian rhapsody, Brian May produced that song, but didnt play on it. He is on record as saying he had to tell them to play bad on it,because they''d rehearsed so much, they were getting really good.
