Blood
Bad Omens Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's no rest for the wicked
There's not a home underneath the mud
And we're all dead, so what's the difference
Between a god and a loaded gun?

I am the sun, rain, the ocean
I am the flood, flames, the chosen
It's in our blood, it's on our breath
It's in the taste between life and death
It's in our blood

I hung myself upon a cross to bleed
Nobody cared, nobody listened to me
So I'm not carrying the weight of a conscience
Bring the floods, bring the flames, bring the violence

It's in our blood, it's on our breath
It's in the taste between life and death
It's in our hearts, it's in our heads
It's for the lives we never got to live
It's in our blood

There's no rest for the wicked
There's not a home underneath the mud
And we're all dead, so what's the difference
Between a god and a fucking gun?
Blood

Sun, rain, ocean
Flood, flames, chosen

It's in our blood, it's on our breath
It's in the taste between life and death
It's in our hearts, it's in our heads
It's for the lives we never got to live

There's no rest for the wicked
There's not a home underneath the mud
And we're all dead, so what's the difference
Between a god and his only son?
It's blood, blood

I am the sun, rain, the ocean
I am the flood, flames, the chosen

Overall Meaning

The song "Blood" by Bad Omens explores themes of hopelessness, despair, and the inevitability of death. The lyrics speak to the idea that there is no escape from the darkness that lies within us, and that we all carry the weight of our past mistakes and regrets. The opening lines, "There's no rest for the wicked / There's not a home underneath the mud" convey a sense of hopelessness and suggest that there is no refuge from the harsh realities of life. The following lines, "And we're all dead, so what's the difference / Between a god and a loaded gun?" pose a philosophical question about the nature of existence and the futility of life.

The chorus, "It's in our blood, it's on our breath / It's in the taste between life and death / It's in our hearts, it's in our heads / It's for the lives we never got to live" speaks to the idea that our choices and actions are deeply ingrained in us, and that they shape the course of our lives. The repetition of "It's in our blood" emphasizes this point, suggesting that our struggles and hardships are an inherent part of who we are.

The second verse, "I hung myself upon a cross to bleed / Nobody cared, nobody listened to me / So I'm not carrying the weight of a conscience / Bring the floods, bring the flames, bring the violence" conveys a sense of desperation and isolation. The line "I hung myself upon a cross to bleed" could be interpreted in a religious context, but could also speak to the idea of sacrificing oneself for a cause that no one else seems to care about. The following lines suggest a willingness to embrace chaos and destruction as a way of coping with pain and despair.

Overall, "Blood" is a dark and introspective song that explores the human condition and the struggle to find meaning and purpose in a world that can often seem bleak and unforgiving.

I am 40 fucking years old and this band is one of my most recent discoveries. I gotta say, I'm glad kids aren't letting Metal die because this shit rules 🤘

@HorribleMuttonChops

Why the fuck does everyone need to put their age up like a badge of honor? So what you're old? Good music is good.

@konversion

It's just to share that you can still find new good music regardless of how old you get. My parents still listen to shit they listened to in the 60s and 70s, not listening to anything newer so I always thought it was because they were never able to appreciate anything newer. I just share my age because I wanna reassure others that that's not the case. Good music is indeed good, I just never would've guessed when I was younger that I'd be at my age and still being amazed by what all is out there.
