Euridice
Baden Powell Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tantas vezes já partiste
Que chego a desesperar
Chorei tanto, sou tão triste
Que já nem sei mais chorar
Oh, meu amado não partas
Não partas de mim
Oh, uma partida que não tem fim
Não há nada que conforte
A falta dos olhos teus
Pensa que a saudade
Mais do que a própria morte

Pode matar-me
Adeus

Overall Meaning

These lyrics are from Baden Powell's song Euridice. The song is about a woman who is pleading with her lover not to leave her, as he has done so many times before. She is incredibly sad and has cried so much that she can no longer even shed tears. She begs him not to leave her again because it feels like the pain of his absence will never end. She tells him that nothing can ease the ache of missing him and that the longing she feels for him could be enough to kill her.

The lyrics are incredibly emotional and express the deep sorrow that comes with a love that is constantly disrupted. The woman is so in love with her partner that she can’t bear the thought of life without him, and the prospect of his leaving again is unbearable. The desperation that the lyrics convey is a universal experience, capturing the heartache and sense of loss that we all feel when we are separated from the ones we love.
