Come and Get It
Badfinger Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If you want it, here it is, come and get it
Mmh, make your mind up fast
If you want it, any time, I can give it

But you'd better hurry 'cause it may not last
Did I hear you say that there must be a catch?
Will you walk away from a fool and his money?
If you want it, here it is, come and get it
But you'd better hurry 'cause it's goin' fast
If you want it, here it is, come and get it
Mmh, make your mind up fast

If you want it, any time, I can give it
But you'd better hurry 'cause it may not last

Did I hear you say that there must be a catch?
Will you walk away from a fool and his money?
Sonny

If you want it, here it is, come and get it
But you'd better hurry 'cause it's goin' fast
You'd better hurry 'cause it's goin' fast

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Fool and his money
Sonny

If you want it, here it is, come and get it
But you'd better hurry 'cause it's goin' fast

You'd better hurry 'cause it's goin' fast
You'd better hurry 'cause it's goin' fast

Overall Meaning

The song "Come and Get It" by Badfinger was written by Beatles member Paul McCartney, who also produced it. The lyrics are a call to action to anyone who wants something - whether it's love or material possessions - to take it before it's gone. The song begins with the singer offering what he has: "If you want it, here it is, come and get it / Make your mind up fast." He warns the listener that they need to act quickly because it might not be around for long. The chorus repeats this sentiment, with the added urgency that it's "goin' fast."

The second part of the song addresses the listener's potential hesitation. The singer asks, "Did I hear you say that there must be a catch?" and wonders if they will "walk away from a fool and his money" - in other words, if they'll miss out on a good thing because they're suspicious or jaded. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, with "Fool and his money / Sonny" added at the end. It's not clear who "Sonny" is, but it's likely just another way of addressing the listener.

Overall, "Come and Get It" is a catchy, upbeat song with a simple message - if you want something, go get it. On a deeper level, it may be a commentary on the fear and hesitation that can hold people back from pursuing what they truly want. By urging the listener to act quickly and decisively, the singer is almost daring them to take a risk and live a little.

In the 70's, when I was in 4th grade, I brought this 45 in for show and tell. My teacher, Mrs. Sheim, was completely blown away by it that she ran and got a few more teachers to come in and listen to it, with the rest of the class. They started dancing and got us all involved. Man, for that day, I was the talk of the town. We were all laughing and dancing. Not a care in the world. From that day on, I was known as "that rock and roll kid"
Thank God for music.

Paul wrote, played all the instruments and recorded the demo of this song in an hour. Then gave it to Badfinger and it became a hit. Probably the most talented musician of the last century.

@startervisions

Probably the best songwriter not just Pop and Rock...Psychedelic music, Heavy Metal music...no one else has that like he does...
