Come on
Badfinger Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If you want it, here it is, come and get it
Mm mm mm mm, make your mind up fast
If you want it, any time, I can give it

But you'd better hurry 'cause it may not last
Did I hear you say that there must be a catch?
Will you walk away from a fool and his money?
If you want it, here it is, come and get it
But you'd better hurry 'cause it's goin' fast
If you want it, here it is, come and get it
Mm mm mm mm, make your mind up fast

If you want it, any time, I can give it
But you'd better hurry 'cause it may not last

Did I hear you say that there must be a catch?
Will you walk away from a fool and his money?
Sonny!

If you want it, here it is, come and get it
But you'd better hurry 'cause it's goin' fast
You'd better hurry 'cause it's goin' fast

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Fool and his money
Sonny!

If you want it, here it is, come and get it
But you'd better hurry 'cause it's goin' fast

You'd better hurry 'cause it's goin' fast
You'd better hurry 'cause it's goin' fast.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Badfinger's song "Come On" are directed at someone who appears hesitant to take advantage of an opportunity that is being presented to them. The singer is telling this person that if they want something, it is available and they should make their mind up quickly before it is gone. The repetition of "If you want it, here it is, come and get it" emphasizes the singer's eagerness to offer what is available. However, the person being addressed is skeptical and asks if there is a catch.

The phrase "will you walk away from a fool and his money?" suggests that the person being addressed thinks that there might be a hidden cost or that the singer is foolish for offering something valuable. The singer then says "Sonny!" which can be interpreted as a dismissive way to call the person out for their cynicism. The chorus repeats the offer, urging the person to hurry because the opportunity is going fast.

The song captures the tension that can arise when someone is trying to offer help or a chance to someone who is hesitant to accept it. It seems to suggest that sometimes, the fear of missing out can be a stronger motivation to accept an opportunity than the potential benefits themselves.

In the 70's, when I was in 4th grade, I brought this 45 in for show and tell. My teacher, Mrs. Sheim, was completely blown away by it that she ran and got a few more teachers to come in and listen to it, with the rest of the class. They started dancing and got us all involved. Man, for that day, I was the talk of the town. We were all laughing and dancing. Not a care in the world. From that day on, I was known as "that rock and roll kid"
Thank God for music.

Paul wrote, played all the instruments and recorded the demo of this song in an hour. Then gave it to Badfinger and it became a hit. Probably the most talented musician of the last century.

@startervisions

Probably the best songwriter not just Pop and Rock...Psychedelic music, Heavy Metal music...no one else has that like he does...

@kelcritcarroll

@kelcritcarroll
