1. A progressive rock band which was was co-founded by keyboardist Tony Kaye with David Foster, after Kaye left Yes. Foster had been in The Warriors with Jon Anderson before Anderson co-founded Yes, and Foster later worked with Yes on the production of Time and a Word. Kaye had worked on a solo project by Foster that was never released.
The pair found drummer Roy Dyke, formerly of Ashton, Gardner & Dyke, and Dyke suggested Brian Parrish on guitar. The new band got signed to Atlantic Records.
Badger's first release was the live recording One Live Badger, co-produced by Jon Anderson and Geoffrey Haslam and taken from a show opening for Yes. In the progressive rock genre, five of the songs were co-written by the whole band, with a sixth by Parrish.
By 1974, the band had been reduced to Kaye and Dyke. They recruited bassist Kim Gardner, who had worked with Dyke in Ashton, Gardner & Dyke. Paul Pilnick, formerly of Stealers Wheel, joined on guitar, as did singer Jackie Lomax.
Lomax proceeded to turn them into the type of R&B/soul band he had used on his solo albums. The band became a vehicle for Lomax's songs and singing. During this period, they released one LP, White Lady, on Epic Records, produced by Allen Toussaint. All ten songs were written or co-written by Lomax. Guests on the album included Jeff Beck (contributing a guitar solo to the title track).
However, before the album's release, the band had split into two factions, with Lomax and Gardner leading a short-lived band called White Lady, before Lomax returned to a solo career.
White Lady b/w Don't Pull the Trigger was released as a single in May 1974.

Fountain
Badger Lyrics

Why do I always doubt your word
When you tell me everything is alright?
Reasons child always had a clear sight
I doubt your word
Why do I always run away?
Gotta stand up straight with my feet down on the ground
I run away
Smile on my face
Like the sun on a fountain
Smile on my face
As you look in my eyes
I see hungry faces in my sleep
Don't seem to have the time, not like I used to do
Sad to say I see a storm cloud growing in the sky
Above the street
Smile on my face
Like the sun on a fountain
Smile on my face
As you look in my eyes
In Badger's song "Fountain," the artist is reflecting on their inner doubts, fears, and anxieties. The opening lines "Why do I always doubt your word / When you tell me everything is alright?" suggest a level of mistrust, which might stem from Badger's own lack of confidence or past experiences with broken promises. The second stanza, "Why do I always run away? / My fear is always greater than my judgement / Gotta stand up straight with my feet down on the ground / I run away," continues this theme of insecurity and suggests that Badger is prone to running away from their problems instead of confronting them head-on.
In the chorus, however, Badger switches to a more positive tone, singing "Smile on my face / Like the sun on a fountain / Smile on my face / As you look in my eyes." Here, the metaphor of a fountain with the sun shining on it suggests a sense of joy and contentment. This could be interpreted as Badger trying to find happiness despite their inner struggles.
The final stanza shifts the focus outward, with Badger describing "hungry faces in [their] sleep" and a "storm cloud growing in the sky / Above the street." This imagery suggests a sense of unease with the world around them and a feeling of powerlessness in the face of societal issues.
Overall, "Fountain" showcases Badger's ability to delve into complex emotions and themes in their songwriting. From doubts and fears to moments of positivity and back again, the song captures the ups and downs of the human experience.

A great album but I still think Tony Kaye would have been better off joining Peter Banks' band 'Flash'. Of course, he played, as a guest, on Flash's first album but wouldn't permanently join the band. To me, he had just as much right to the 'Yes' sound as Yes itself and it would have been a much shrewder move to team up with Banks in order to capitalize on it. Badger, of course, morphed into something completely different after this album and eventually broke up without really accomplishing much whereas Flash had a much more solid career and would have been a much bigger band had Kaye stayed with them.
