He had to put rubber in his mouth to protect his teeth while seeking shelter in bomb shelters

For the impact to keep his teeth from coming out
The rubber in his mouth prevented his teeth from being knocked out due to bomb impacts

He saw things no child should have to see
He witnessed tragic events and horrors that no child should ever have to witness

Streets and rivers both flooded with casualties
Everywhere he looked, he saw streets and rivers filled with the aftermath of casualties

Father finally returned reunited at last
After a long absence, his father finally returned, bringing about a long-awaited reunion

The war had ended but, they were no longer welcome

He needed to exercise caution when spending time with these unfamiliar people

But he got by, discovered his love for music
Despite the challenges, he managed to survive and found solace in his passion for music

Jazz got him things that he just wasn't used to
Jazz music opened doors and provided him with opportunities he never had before

Took it with him everywhere, loved it so much
He carried his love for jazz with him wherever he went, cherishing it deeply

Moved to america, cause he heard there was plenty there
He decided to move to America, attracted by the promises of abundance and opportunity

Got an education but still kept playing
He pursued his education while continuing to pursue his passion for playing music

Traveled the world, came back and put his faith in
He explored different parts of the world, returned home, and placed his trust in something or someone

The Glory of God, taught by a bass player
A bass player taught him about the greatness and divinity of God

Had sons of his own, and through them he's grown
He became a father and found personal growth and fulfillment through his children

And now they're the one's looking out for him
His children are now the ones who take care of and support him

They love him and I can tell you that they're proud of him

She had to grow up quickly and take on adult responsibilities to support herself and pay the bills

Ever since, she has been independent and self-reliant

She used what she had and finally started singing
She utilized her talents and finally began pursuing her passion for singing

After she learned that God was watching over her
Upon realizing that God was guiding and protecting her, she gained a sense of comfort

From a bass player, the answer to her prayers
A bass player became the answer to her prayers and provided her with guidance and support

No formal education but she got into a graduate
Despite lacking a formal education, she managed to gain admission into a graduate program

Program, she worked hard cause she so was glad to get
She worked diligently because she was grateful for the opportunity she had been given

Any opportunity, and that mindset is still in her
She continues to maintain a mindset of gratitude for any opportunity that comes her way

A teacher now, because that work is real to her
She became a teacher because she deeply values the work and believes in its significance

Made a new life for her kids out of nothin
She created a new, fulfilling life for her children despite starting with very little

Doctorate in hand cause she knows how to hustle
She earned a doctorate degree through her determination and ability to work hard

But her greatest feat is not her PHD
Her greatest accomplishment is not her doctorate degree

Her biggest accomplishment is of a higher degree
Her most significant achievement surpasses the achievements of academia

It's the fact that her sons can count on her
The fact that her sons rely on her and can trust in her is her true accomplishment

I encountered my brother even before we were born

We both had to make the move late june

But it was never possible my heart was stolen
However, it was never attainable or sustainable, and my heart was ultimately broken

I sought something to burn
I searched for something to ignite or consume me

Ruined all my relationships, got me what I deserved
I destroyed all my connections with others, and as a result, faced the consequences I deserved

Lesson learned, a step closer to my destination
I learned a valuable lesson and moved closer to reaching my ultimate goal or purpose

Finally left school to start my education
I finally realized that true education goes beyond the confines of formal schooling

Life abroad saw my pain lifted
