A Minor Incident
Badly Drawn Boy Lyrics

And nothing you could do to stop me feeling the way I do
And if the chance should happen that I never see you again
Just remember that I'll always love you
I'd be a better person on the other side I'm sure
You'd find a way to help yourself
Then find another door
Make us both feel proud
I just wish I could be there to see you through
You always were the one to make us stand out in a crowd
Though every once upon a while your head was in a cloud
There's nothing you could never do to ever let me down
And remember that I'll always love you
The song A Minor Incident by Badly Drawn Boy is a heartwarming and emotional ballad that speaks to the pain of a breakup and the love that remains even when things change. The opening lines of the song, "There's nothing I could say to make you try and feel OK / And nothing you could do to stop me feeling the way I do" signal the difficulty of moving on and the feelings of helplessness that come in the aftermath of a relationship ending.
The lyrics go on to articulate a hope that both individuals will find happiness in their own lives, even if that means going separate ways. "I'd be a better person on the other side I'm sure / You'd find a way to help yourself / Then find another door" suggests that sometimes the best thing for both parties is to go their own separate ways so they can grow and become better versions of themselves. The singer expresses a deep love for the other person, acknowledging their flaws and their strengths, and promising to always love them no matter what happens.
The final lines of the song, "There's nothing you could never do to ever let me down / And remember that I'll always love you" are a reminder that even when things are difficult or painful, love is a constant that remains. The song speaks to the complexities of relationships and the way that even when they end, the love that was shared remains.

It's worth seeking out Nick Hornby's chapter from the collection he edited "31 Songs" about this very song.
