Ya know, despite what a lot of people say, I’ve actually always really liked Bailey’s voice. It’s unique and she’s not trying to copy LBB. Obviously she doesn’t have as much experience as LBB, but I still think she’s got an amazing voice, I mean that last note is a beast and she’s killing it. I’m really happy that she had a good experience with this show.

Poor Bailey, everyone's always comparing her (negatively) to Laura Bell Bundy. I think Bailey's good! Stepping into LBB's shoes was not going to be easy, but she did a great job. She held that note really well at the end - probably not easy after such an energetic song.

It’s been many years and I decided to “reopen this case” and I’m gonna say this. The theatre life is S H I T. Bailey was amazing. But then broadway hit her. And she became like this. She’s now a hairdresser after her traumatic experience with broadway. And I know this because she was my hairdresser so I have some bias. But being in theatre for 10 years of my life I know that theatre is just not for some people like me and bailey. You have to be thick skinned and can’t let people’s words get to you. But unfortunately that’s hard to do and theatre causes a lot of mental illnesses for people. So I suggest everyone stop throwing hate at the poor girl and open your eyes to the true world of theatre. Trust me try achieving to be on broadway and you’ll see how shitty people can be in that industry. “I end my case.”

@Risa Green Well I know this is late, Laura has had her off days too, and Laura was more experienced whilst this was kinda Baileys first show she really has ever done. Plus, high school productions literally only do productions 1-3 days and then after those 3 days are over, they have a pizza party and don’t perform ever again. A lot of Broadway people don’t have that time to chill unless it’s certain days, but they have to go home or if they want stay out they go to bar for like one drink then go home and sleep, no hanging out as much considering they have to wake up and do that performance again. Plus, Laura’s voice did strain from this. Plus there’s examples of Idina and Kristin who were the OBC for Elphaba and Galinda who seemed to struggle more towards their last performances compared to their first performances they’ve done, but after they stopped performing their voices went back to normal and they’re able to sing the same way again, it’s just performing very demanding songs
8 times a week is very hard. Another example would be Sophia Caruso who plays Lydia in Beetlejuice and how her voice strained a lot and screeched but originally it didn’t do that and now that she stopped playing Lydia her voice went back to normal too. It could’ve just been an off day for Bailey, and although Laura definitely is Elle and set the bar for everyone, I think it’s better to give other people a chance.

All the people complaining that the key was lowered SPECIFICALLY for Bailey need to look around a little more. Laura has a freaky amazing voice, it's hard to live up to, and plenty of Elle's have had the key lowered. Sheridan Smith, for example, from the London production, had the key lowered. Quit whining, it's still a good show, and they are still perfectly good actresses who don't deserve to be bashed like this. Thank you, goodbye.

I watched Bailey’s and Lauren Zarkin’s performance and I prefer Bailey’s voice because it’s not as squeaky, but Lauren’s performance was 10x better. Just in terms of blocking, energy, acting, humor, pacing, and even what she chose to do with her voice. I would have loved to see Lauren on Broadway, and Bailey isn’t bad. She made it here and through the season of the next Elle Woods proved she was a phenomenal performer, and this isn’t a “hating on Bailey” thing. Of the several performances I have seen Bailey doesn’t hold her own with them plain and simple.

anyone complaining about the key should really find some recordings of laura towards the end of her run. She's incredible but man did her voice get absolutely killed. Maybe lowering the key wasnt the worst idea if it meant saving the performer's voice.

I don't really care for Bailey but not for the reasons that other people dislike her. It's not that she's not a bad actress or a bad singer because she's not bad. There's just something about someone getting to star in a hit Broadway musical because they won a reality game show that gets to me. A role like that should go to someone who not only looks the part but has the experience to go behind it, not because the judges saw the most "potential" in her. This Broadway, not American Idol.

My high school is a performing arts high school and we did this. A junior was Elle and her acting was better. Honestly she did a bunch of shows with no understudy. Her belt killed this song and she wasn't afraid to travel a little more LBB with it. I think that by not going in that direction you loose some of Elle's essence. She went full out and is going to be our Erma in Anything Goes and our Delores in Working.

There were moments of hey there's Elle that I just wanted more of.

I hope to be able to spend months and months singing/acting/dancing nonstop. >.< You're right, though...people are way too judgemental. Watching some of her earlier stuff, it was worrisome that she couldn't breathe properly, but she very clearly got that under control. She's not LBB, but she's very talented and she did this difficult song like it was no trouble at all. It's great to see! ^_^

Oh wow, people are so judgemental! Sure, I preferred Laura Bell too but you know to play Elle you need to be lead practically every scene, every number - you never get a break! I think she's done brilliant with such a part! Those who think they can sing better, why not try singing/acting/dancing nonstop for month and months at a time dozens of times each week and we'll judge how good you are then. Just saying, give the girl some credit! XP

there are a lot of other elles who did way worse than bailey. i know how hard it is to be elle, i am elle in a youth theater production of legally blonde, and this song is extremely difficult. i would like to see you try to sing and dance and act, and hit every single one of those notes, all while being hit with those lights and being in front of a big audience

Since everyone can’t be happy with Bailey, I will say something nice. No, Bailey is not LBB but it shouldn’t be that she has to be exactly like her. Bailey has made the role special and known for her special thing that she does with the character. But if it was the other way around (with Bailey as the og cast and LBB in her position) it would still be the same way with people being unhappy.

It's not our job to criticize the actors, it's the directors job.. Even though Bailey hasn't had much experience she still killed it & made Elle her own.. Obviously, everyone loves the originals and compares back to the original casts but it's not about copying them for every action it's for making the character their own look of it.. overall though she's no LBB she amazed me for her first Broadway debut

She isn't terrible, she just ghosts too many of the pitches so it makes her vocals seem weaker and her emotions weren't as strong as LBB. If she had worked harder on her ear and emoting more contrasting emotions, she would have done soo much better!
