Baka Gbiné were formed when Martin Cradick and Su Hart of Baka Beyond travelled to live with them, taking guitars. Over the years since they first went many of the Baka have learned to play, and Baka Gbiné is the band they have formed to take their distinctive brand of music to the wider world.
In 2004 and 2005 Martin set up a mobile multi track recording studio under a giant tree. The result of these sessions is the album "Gati Bongo", voted "Top of the World" by Songlines magazine, and staying in the iTunes world music charts for the whole of the last year.
In May 2006 Baka Gbiné toured in UK with Baka Beyond and a joint album "Baka Live" is out April 2007

Je suis fière d'être de l'est du Cameroun

Wonderful! I can’t help but wonder where the bass player is though. I can believe the rest is recorded in the field. Such joyful community music making! Makes me want to cry for my cultures poverty of such unrestrained musical joy
@bakabeyond
You're right, the bass was added back in UK but all the rest was recorded in the field. This was back in 2005. For their next album "Kopolo" (baka.gbine.com ) recorded in the forest in 2012 the bass was played by Barma, recorded live (but played on a classical guitar and made to sound more like an electric bass in the studio). Sadly Barma died of TB last November a few hours before we arrived at their village.
