The three founding members of the band are Scottish brothers; the Morris brothers (James Morris, Mark Morris and Des Morris). As children in Motherwell, they worked in the entertainment industry as part of a cabaret act. They moved south to England, to Cannock, Staffordshire, where they formed Balaam and the Angel.
1985 saw the band augment their line up with keyboard player ‘Wendy Harper’.
Initially, the band self-released a series of EPs via their own Chapter 22 label and played some tour dates opening for The Cult. This saw Balaam and the Angel catch the attention of Virgin Records who signed them and would release their debut "The Greatest Story Ever Told" in 1986. They toured in support of it in the United States with KISS and label mates Iggy Pop.
A second guitarist, and the first non sibling was added to the band in 1988; Ian McKean. The band began to move away from gothic rock music styles into a sound that had more in common with hard rock. With their new found style they recorded the album "Live Free or Die", which featured the minor rock (#13) and college radio (#18) hit "I Love the Things You Do to Me". This was soon followed up in similar style when they recorded "Days of Madness", before being dropped by Virgin Records. Their song "I'll Show You Something Special" is on the Steve Martin and John Candy movie "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" soundtrack.
At some point, the band were joined by Chris P Notes on Keyboards.

Running Out of Time
Balaam And The Angel Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Sometimes there's no solution
Right from the start
There's always been confusion
Sometimes it's strange
Caught in a revolution
Within a change
There's still the sound of silence
I'll never let it get me down
Yet again
We're running outof time
The lyrics to Balaam And The Angel's song, Running Out Of Time, convey a sense of urgency and confusion. The opening lines express how difficult it can be when there seems to be no solution to a problem, leading to feelings of confusion. The song suggests that sometimes we find ourselves in situations where we feel stuck, caught in a revolution, where change is happening all around, yet there remains an underlying sound of silence. The song acknowledges that it's strange to find oneself in such a situation, but despite this, there is an undercurrent of hope.
The lyrics convey the sense that time is running out - with the repeated refrain "yet again, we're running out of time". This repeated phrase reinforces the idea that time is precious, and every moment counts. There is an overall sense of urgency, that we need to act before it's too late. The lyrics suggest that time can slip away from us, and that we need to focus on what is important, to seize the moment before it's gone. The theme of the song is universal, reminding us that we all face the same essential issue: how to make the most of our time and live a life that matters.
