Your feet are getting pushed by the wind
and i have fled the room in fear of
in fear of the way you love to move about
with time you'll realize
oh, this urge you can't control
oh, it's impossible to give up what you know
the reasons you might stay are fading with the day.
now the plants are coming back from weeks of rest
and that sun has got to beatin' on your chest
it's warm and blood is circling around your veins
so you're off to build yourself a better name.
walk fast, don't look back
so if you seek to learn, then lay right down and turn an ear to face the dirt
advice is not just words
and stand up straight, you'll see the stars and galaxies
they'll lead you right along to somewhere you belong
drifter, you're going home now
drifter, you're going home.
In the song "Drifter" by Balance Problems, the lyrics describe someone who is on the move, constantly seeking new experiences and adventure. The singer has fled the room in fear of the way this person loves to move about, suggesting that they are perhaps reckless or unpredictable in their behavior. However, the singer also acknowledges that over time, this person will realize that they need to face the road that is "snappin' at their legs" and move on from their current situation.
As the song progresses, the singer describes the changing of the seasons, with the plants coming back to life after weeks of rest and the sun beating down on the drifter's chest. The drifter is urged to keep moving forward, building a better life for themselves and leaving behind whatever reasons they might have for staying where they are.
The final lines of the song suggest that the drifter is now going home, implying that they have found their place in the world and are no longer simply wandering aimlessly. Overall, the lyrics of "Drifter" convey a sense of restlessness and a desire for change, while also acknowledging the importance of finding one's place in the world.
