Keepsake
Balance and Composure Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't fall.
And I'll catch you on the outside

But you called.
And don't tell me that you want back in.

Keeping it a secret
And my shame could never come out of the hell I left it in.
Keep it for keepsake now.

Even if you knew my face, (Come see my unfolding)
Would it still keep you away? (Barely even know me)
There's an empty part of me
Numb to the taste (Come see my unfolding)
See harmony.

Unfold.
And don't catch me on the outside

Cause I'm numb.
And don't tell me that you want back in.

Keeping all my distance.
It's strange though I'm still proud of the hell that I left it in.
Keep it for keepsake now.

Shaken, you let me see the way I was affecting the
Image I had up in my head,
There's no caution pestering me.

I see you out in the fields laughing
Surrounded by all the green, ghastly sunset.
All you wanted was to chase its shiny gleam.

Paint a portrait of this scene
That is acting out a dream.

Withered spirits,
Hallelujah,
I've discovered everything.

Even if you knew my face, (Come see my unfolding)
Would it still keep you away? (Barely even know me)
There's an empty part of me
Numb to the taste (Come see my unfolding)
See harmony.
See harmony.
See harmony.

See harmony.
See harmony.

Overall Meaning

In "Keepsake," Balance and Composure explores themes of isolation, shame, and regret. The opening lines of the song, "Don't fall. And I'll catch you on the outside," suggest a willingness to help and support someone, but this assistance is not reciprocated – "But you called. And don't tell me that you want back in." The singer of the song is stuck in a cycle of shame and secrecy – "Keeping it a secret. And my shame could never come out of the hell I left it in" – and has resigned themselves to living with these feelings indefinitely – "Keep it for keepsake now."

The chorus of the song juxtaposes a desire for connection with a fear of being rejected or misunderstood. "Even if you knew my face, would it still keep you away? There's an empty part of me, numb to the taste, see harmony." This longing for companionship is then contrasted with a detachment and alienation from others, as the singer states, "Cause I'm numb. And don't tell me that you want back in. Keeping all my distance. It's strange though I'm still proud of the hell that I left it in. Keep it for keepsake now." The song's final lines offer a hopeful vision of moving forward and breaking free from the chains of self-loathing, as the singer declares, "Withered spirits, Hallelujah, I've discovered everything."

the way anthony's vocals were done on the song were quite perfect actually

Bby Blue

I can understand why so people are pissed, and to the un-trained ear Anthony Green's voice is hard to hear. But the harmonizing in this song is really great . I don't think B&C were trying to hide his voice, I just think they were experimenting with sounds.

LoveThievesMusic

Totally feeling Anthony Green's vocals. They go good with Jon's

sean o'neil

i agree, i love the way anthony's vocals were displayed on this track. subtle, yet still bone-chillingly present.

Boyan Antonov

They actually fit the song perfectly. It keeps the element of "surprise" and the undertone is exotic.

Okay, first, great song. Overall great. Now I like that Anthony's voice is layered in the chorus - it works really well. I just feel like he should have been given the bridge, or a small section to show the raw power of his voice.

Blouistu101

SO GOOD! I can't wait. You guys did awesome.
