Midnight Zone
Balance and Composure Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In the ocean we can barely float
In the ocean further down we go
I don't want to know your motive

Come and stay another moment
Stay another moment
Drifting down and we don't wash ashore
Come and stay another moment
Stay another moment
Pull me down
Down to your ocean floor

In the ocean follow where you go
Your devotion is sinking down below
I don't want know your motive

Come and stay another moment
Stay another moment
Drifting down and we don't wash ashore
Come and stay another moment
Stay another moment
Pull me down
Down to your ocean floor

Famous for the way I've fallen
Fading love take me down to the bottom
Failing lungs the more i swallow
Wading once but now we're underwater

Come and stay another moment
Stay another moment
Drifting down and we don't wash ashore
Come and stay another moment
Stay another moment

Pull me down
Down to your ocean floor

Overall Meaning

The song "Midnight Zone" by Balance and Composure speaks about the struggle of being in an uncertain situation, feeling disconnected or lost like you are wading, drowning or sinking. It metaphorically likens this feeling to being adrift in the ocean, where it is difficult to stay afloat or maintain a sense of direction. The lyrics suggest that the singer is willingly following someone who is leading them further away from familiar shores, while admitting to not understanding their motives. They seem content to stay in this state of limbo, asking the person to "stay another moment" and pull them down to the ocean floor.

The chorus repeats the same lines emphasizing the desire to stay in this moment and avoid being rescued or washed ashore. The bridge shifts focus onto the thoughts of the singer, who feels famous for their failures and unable to resist being swallowed by their own negative thoughts. The song concludes with the realization that they are now fully submerged or underwater, unable to leave the situation, and resigned to waiting for something or someone to rescue them from their figurative ocean trench.

Overall, the lyrics of "Midnight Zone" seem to describe a sense of freedom and comfort in being lost and adrift, without a stable grounding, even though it might be leading the singer to an uncertain or unstable situation.

Coffehouse girl customer brought me here. She was from near Detroit i think she said. Thanks man.

@aSheetGhost

Jon killed it with the high notes! Sounds so cool.

@grungus7200

I was wondering if some of the high parts were Andy, but they definitely sound like Jon too.

@aSheetGhost

Jay dude I'm not even sure it's Jon. Just a guess because they manipulated his voice on other tracks. It would be cool if he's trying something new. Also would be cool if it was Andy. This track slaps cats though.

@chadansell533

You know an album is gonna be amazing when the very first song gives you goosebumps right out of the gate. Well done, fellas! It excites me that one band can create music to perfectly match many different moods. This album is incredible!

Deadass!!! When I first listened to the entire album for the very first time and this song started off, I IMMEDIATELY fell in love with this song!!! X0

@nathanlevesque8913

I love how they decided to branch off of the Punk sound they've made beforehand, and decided to go a little more mellow on this album. My older brother got me into these guys, and now he's not crazy about this album as much as me. Oh well… his loss! I would definitely give this song a 10! I love to sing this at work whenever possible.
