In the cinema when this movie was first released, people laughed in appreciation at this part of the film with Pacino making a case for why humans should despise God and follow him. The lines are brilliant but Pacino's delivery makes them superb. It's still a movie I watch from time to time and I also love the soundtrack at the end of the film just when the journalist morphs into Pacino and begins with "Paint It Black." Speaking of that song, check out Hidden Citizen's version. It's not as upbeat but it's epic in its own way.

The Devil's Advocate is still my favourite movie ever. I can actually recite every scene. I just finished watching this movie and it’s honestly insane how Pacino always manages to leave me speechless, doesn’t matter what role he’s playing, he always leaves me there on the couch thinking “He’s too good, he’s too fucking good!” He played Satan so convincingly, he was so disturbing and he managed to do that both when he was speaking and when not, just with his mannerisms and expressions. People sometimes write comments about religeon with this speech. Well we forget this is a movie and Al Pachino is supposed to be acting as Satan! However here we see Al Pachino truly surpassing himself, giving a great acting part, totally getting INTO his role and making him do the greatest interpretation of Satan I have ever seen in a movie or a series! Not only the dialogue of the movie is perfect I mean come on! He is trying to PERSUADE someone to follow him and gives some arguments that sound true to someone's ear or arguments that are hard to fight on especially by someone desperate who has stopped thinking.
His facial expressions are simply amazing. It sometimes fools you and makes you think you are speaking with Satan himself and puts so much passion in his acting in these few lines. No matter how religeous someone is, no matter if someone likes this movie or not, cannot argue with the fact that Al Pachino is deffinitely great actor and here he sure suprasses himself!

+katerinaaqu Yeah it's a movie, fiction but nonfiction in essence (like The Screwtape Letters and whatnot). But yeah, one of the greatest (if not the greatest) actors who ever lived! He (Satan's character) even makes you feel bad for him for a moment (when you forget its all manipulation). And does make good points (that would surely manipulate most of those already hostile to religion), as he does on that one Jesus movie (1999) in the garden before the crucifixion (even shows Jesus how his name and teachings would be defiled over the centuries, the Crusades and so on).
