I Can't Help It
Bananarama Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sugar's sweet but your kisses can't be beat
Whatever you got, it's good enough for me
Boys say (they say) I'm good enough to eat (manger)
Whatever you want you got 'cause you knock me off my feet

I'm hungry for your sweet love
I need you here tonight
I'm crazy, I'm burning up

I can't help it
I'm captivated by your honey
I can't help it
I'm captivated by your honey

You've tasted honey, you've had the rest
Well here I am, come on and try the best
No chance (no chance) won't let you get away (no way)
Whatever you need from me gonna let you get your way

I'm waiting, can't get enough
So move your body close
I need you, I won't give up

I can't help it
I'm captivated by your honey
I can't help it
I'm captivated by your honey

Move your body close tonight
Move your body close tonight
Move your body close tonight
Move your body close tonight

I'm hungry for your sweet love
I need you here tonight
I'm crazy, I'm burning up

I can't help it
I can't help it
I can't help it
I'm captivated by your honey

I can't help it
I'm captivated by your honey

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bananarama’s song “I Can’t Help It” are a declaration of love and desire for someone. The first four lines describe the singer’s attraction to this person, emphasizing their sweet kisses and their ability to knock her off her feet. She is not ashamed of this desire and is open to whatever he has to offer her. The chorus repeatedly declares her captivation with his “honey,” which could refer to both his sweetness and his physical attributes.

The second verse suggests that the person she desires may have had other partners before her, but she is still confident in her ability to offer the best. She is unwilling to let him leave, giving him whatever he needs to keep him close to her. The chorus repeats the same message of her captivation with his honey, and the bridge of the song encourages him to move his body closer to her.

Despite the simplicity of the lyrics, they effectively convey the singer’s intense attraction to someone. The repeated imagery of honey and sweetness, as well as the focus on physical attraction, make the song playful and upbeat.

I do wonder why no one has set up a bar that plays just 80, and 90's music. Maybe throw in a bit of early 00's in there too. And I am not talking of all the well know tracks, I mean the ones you never hear as well like this one. I just think there must be a market for such a place. It would so well. People of all ages love this type of music.
