Rob and Creighton were formerly of the mathrock band The New Mexicans before joining Band of Horses. Monsters
Band of Horses Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
They can't find you for the moment
Then for all past efforts
They're buried deep beneath
Your heart and somewhere in your stomach
And hatred for all others
When awful people they surround you
Well, eh, they just like monsters
They come to feed on me
Giant little animals to feed
Though
To say "we got much hope"
"If I am lost, it's only for a little while"
Oh
A treat for all these problems
They can't find us for the moment
Then for all past effort
They're buried deep beneath
Our hearts and somewhere in our stomachs
And hatred for all others
And awful people, they surround you
Eh, they just like monsters
They come to feed on us
Giant little animals for us
Though
To say "we got much hope"
"If I am lost it's only for a little while"
And though
To say "we got much hope"
"If I am lost it's only for a little while"
"If I am lost it's only for a little while"
"If I am lost it's only for a little while"
The lyrics of Band of Horses's song Monsters reflect on the idea of facing one's own personal demons and struggles. The first verse talks about finding solace in temporary solutions or "a treat for all these problems" which provide momentary relief but do not solve the underlying issues. The past efforts to address these issues are buried deep within the singer's heart and stomach, indicating that they have been internalized and are affecting them from within. The second verse highlights the challenge of dealing with difficult people in one's life who surround and feed on the singer's vulnerabilities like "monsters". The chorus emphasizes the idea of hope despite being temporarily lost or struggling. Overall, Monsters talks about the struggle to confront one's demons and dealing with difficult people while holding onto hope for a better future.
