Overall Meaning

In Banks's song Change, she starts by sharing her thoughts with Baba God, seeking guidance on how to help her people who are suffering and in need of change. The lyrics continue by pointing out that people desire change, but don't want to spend anything to get it. This reveals a belief that change requires not only a desire for it but an actual investment of time, resources, and energy.

The song also acknowledges the power of unity to bring about change. Banks calls on everyone to come together, to work hard until they reach out to their loved ones, and make a difference. She recognizes that change can't happen overnight, and it takes a collective effort towards a common goal. Banks's reflects on the hard work required to achieve change, saying this effort needs to begin with individual change. The song ends with a chant that emphasizes the need to do away with old ways of doing things and to embrace new ones to achieve transformation.

This song is an uplifting and reflective piece that highlights the need for change and investment in the process. The lyrics are a call to everyone to make a change for the better by coming together and working towards a common goal of transformation. The chant, "To get the change you must change yourself" is a reminder that it all begins with an individual taking responsibility for their role in the process.

Always cold
While you'd self-incriminate
By avoiding all my questions
And calling me an instigator
Cut me down
Always calling me unstable
You so easily can make me cry
Just 'cause you are in a mood
And you'd say
Call me out
You would say I need attention
Just because I put on makeup
To ironically look good for you
Cut me to pieces
While you watched me disintegrate
Because you like to tell me how you hate
All the ways I'm not enough for you
Then you'd say
Baby don't go
I didn't know
I'll change I swear
I'll change I swear
Baby don't go
I'll make you wait
I promise I'll be better
All of these things they will change
Baby don't go
I didn't know
I'll change I swear
I'll change I swear
Baby don't go
I'll make you wait
I promise I'll be better
All of these things they will change
Never guilty
Say it ain't your fault
Because you had an emotionally abusive daddy
And 'cause of this you don't know how to act
Poor poor baby
Say you can't help the fact that you're so crazy
And you're so good at making me feel guilty
For trying to walk away
Because I'm tired of being mad
Then you'd say
Baby don't go
I didn't know
I'll change I swear
I'll change I swear
Baby don't go
I'll make you wait
I promise I'll be better
All of these things they will change
Baby don't go
I didn't know
I'll change I swear
I'll change I swear
Baby don't go
I'll make you wait
I promise I'll be better
All of these things they will change

You couldn't write this unless you had this experience. It's so fucked up you couldn't make it up but everyone from an abusive relationship could tell the exact same story.
People always ask why people don't just leave but this is why. They ruin your life, act like the victim and make you feel guilty. So much insight, i love her.

@scottroger5859

+Robird Well, don't be a cheater.

@EW-vz3ij

+Mr. Roger's ... people don't only get abused because they cheated...

@bethjessup5527

I tremendously agree!

@alrightythen6167

Rosie yes. If u ever been thru this u can never know the pain

@claudettellontop5

I'm guessing both sides could say the same thing. Both sides actually end up feeling abused.

I was in an abusive relationship for 4 years both mental and physical and this song, brain, and explosions by Ellie Goulding literally got me out. I would listen to them over and over and cry and because I kept my relationship hidden as much as I could and not talked about it like I probably should have, these songs are like the shoulder I cried on that I needed. I will never fucking forget this song ever. Thank you Jillian ❤️

@Bexckers
