I'll Be Waiting
Bankstatement Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Night and once again I hear you calling
In my mind you speak the words I long to hear
I see your face can even feel your breathing
Though I know that you are never really there

If I had been born bolder you would be truly next to me

So then
I'll be waiting I'll be waiting
I'm waiting just for you

To stroke your hair and feel your arms around me
To talk of things we did or we would do
Would be the kind of magic I'd believe in
But there's some things even wizards cannot do

If I had been born bolder I wouldn't need a magic wand

So then
I'll be waiting I'll be waiting
I'd give up all for you
What else can I do
I'm waiting just for you

We stand together in the evening sun
Unspoken thoughts we share as one
Golden light on distant mountains
Slowly fades as surely as the light of dreams

Don't think about tomorrow
In the darkness I can still believe you're here
If the power of thought can give a vision substance
Then in truth you are alive and close to me

If I had been born bolder I would take you in my arms
Who's to stop me reaching for you the only one is me

So then
I'll be waiting I'll be waiting
I'd give up all for you
What else can I do
I only dream of you
What else can I do
I'm waiting just for you
What else can I do

I'll be waiting

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bankstatement's song "I'll Be Waiting" express the feelings of someone who is longing for someone they cannot have. The song begins with the singer hearing the voice of the person they desire calling out to them inside their head. They explain that although they can see their face and feel their breath, they are aware that this person is not really there. If only they had been braver, the singer thinks, this person could be with them in reality.

The second verse goes on to describe what the singer would do if they could be with the person they desire. They would stroke their hair and embrace them while talking about the things they have done and would like to do together. This is the kind of magic that they truly believe in. However, the singer is also aware that certain things are impossible, even for wizards.

The final verse expresses a sense of hopefulness. The singer imagines standing with the object of their affection, sharing unspoken thoughts and experiencing the beauty of nature together. They implore themselves not to think about tomorrow, but instead to believe that this person is truly with them in the present moment. The song ends with the singer acknowledging that the only thing stopping them from reaching out for this person is themselves.

Overall, the lyrics of "I'll Be Waiting" are about the desire for someone who is out of reach, but also the hope that one day they may be able to overcome their fears and be with that person.

Buen tema,
1 bueno de cada 10
Porque realmente como musico
Solista
No le llega a los talones a Steve Hackett,
Steve H. si que es un musico talentoso y humilde,
En cambio Banks un hombre envidioso y MALA PERSONA,
Responsable de que Hackett
Abandonara Genesis.

For Catherine Earnshaw

you and I are alike
two strings in a knot
that are forever bound
and I have heard your call
across the moor
and at my pane
I await my departure
to be with you again

I am desperate for
my hour to be near
there is no comfort
afforded to me
all I have ever desired
lies waiting on this hill

your family mourns
that you are gone
but I know you wonder
these moors on your own
searching far
and visiting near
I know our time is to come

Catherine, where is your is your touch?
Catherine is that your voice?
Cathy, even that cold earth
cannot hide you from me!!

Just imagine this gem performed live sung by Phil Collins, played by Mike on bass, Daryl on guitar and Chester on drums. Just imagine...

This sounds just as good now as when I first heard it on cassette almost 30 years ago.

Really! truth - I had it on cassette too, I remember reading where Tony said the album was released at the wrong time - I think he said the Stones had an album at the time - not even sure what album the Stones had out at the time - didnt really care to be honest. I bought Bank Statement instead - awesome record - the Stones are over rated any way. Peace.

Yes indeed, Tony Banks and The Stones were always stepping on each other's toes and trying to steal the limelight from each other.

This composition helps to detach from the outside world when I drive a car - everything that happens outside the windows looks like a huge video clip when "I'll Be Waiting" sounds
