Somewhere
Barabra Streisand Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Someday, somewhere
We'll find a new way of living
Will find a way of forgiving

Somewhere, there's a place for us
Somewhere a place for us
Peace and quiet and open air wait for us
Somewhere, there's a time for us
Someday there'll time for us
Time together with time to spare
Time to learn, time to care

Someday, somewhere
We'll find a new way of living
Will find there's a way of forgiving
Somewhere, somewhere, somewhere

There's a place for us, a time and a place for us
Hold my hand and we're half way there

Just hold my hand and I'll take you there
Somehow, someday, somewhere

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Barbara Streisand's song "Somewhere" express hope and longing for a better future. The song suggests that, although we may be facing challenges and difficulties in the present, there is always the possibility of finding a new way forward, a path towards a more peaceful and forgiving world. The lyrics describe a place and a time where there is peace, quiet, and open air; where there is time for learning and caring, and where forgiveness can be found.

The overall tone of the song is one of optimism and perseverance, as the singers look towards a brighter future despite the obstacles that may be in their way. The repeated use of the word "somewhere" emphasizes the idea of a possible, yet undefined place where this change can occur.

One possible interpretation of the song is that it can be seen as an encouragement to persevere in the face of adversity, and to keep fighting for a better future. The lyrics suggest that it is possible to find a way out of the darkness, and that this path can be found by holding hands and supporting each other.

Overall, "Somewhere" is a song that expresses a sense of hope and longing for a brighter future, and encourages us to keep striving towards a more peaceful and forgiving world.

I sang this song to my daughter, as she passed 2/10/91. She was buried 26 years ago today, 2/13. A day doesn't go by where I don't think of her and miss all the time we could have shared. One day we will have that time in the afterlife.

Catherine Brunner My son passed two years ago this June 2018. He was 25yrs old. I miss him everyday and carry him inside me when I leave my house to go help clients with complex diseases. This is a beautiful song. Thanks for sharing. Love like this will keep us going everyday until we meet our children in the afterlife.
