From 1980 to 1981, she and her two sisters hosted the last successful variety show, "Barbara Mandrell & the Mandrell Sisters", on NBC.
In 1984, she and her two children were involved in a severe automobile accident, leaving her with serious injuries. All three were taken to Baptist Hospital in Nashville.
After giving her final concert performance at the Grand Old Opry House on October 23rd, 1997, she later moved into acting on the short lived soap opera, "Sunset Beach" on NBC.
In October 2006, she was honored with the release of a new tribute album "She Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool: A Tribute To Barbara Mandrell" on BNA Records.

I agree with you there. I was a little boy too when I first heard her sing. I am now 45 and half years old and she still sounds as good as she always has. Her music can definitely sound like she is singing right to you personally

I remember thinking Barbara Mandrell was not real country at the time her songs came out. No fiddles/steel guitar. I still liked her music, but.....

@Jim Reeves It was definitely part of the crossover scene at the time. Because of songs like this I didn't realize then how talented the Mandrell sisters actually were. This was just a cheesy pop hit but I've never forgotten it...

This was another big hit for Barbara! I truly miss hearing her on the radio and television! She will always be remembered as one of country music’s best female singers! In my opinion she was country and she wasn’t! She had a lot of rhythm & blues & soul in her singing!
