A turbine
Why do we try before we have none
Your head

Overall Meaning

In Barbarossa's song Turbine, the repeated lyrics "Why do we try before we have none, but your head, a big engine, a turbine" seem to be questioning the impulse to push ourselves beyond our limits, to constantly try and do more even when we don't have the resources or energy to sustain it. The metaphor of the turbine, a piece of machinery that converts energy into power, is used to describe the human mind or perhaps our ambition, which works like a machine even when we feel like we have nothing left to give. The line "but your head" implies that it's our mental capacity that's driving us forward, but at what cost? The repetition of "your head" towards the end of the song suggests a sense of exhaustion or perhaps madness, as if the machine has broken down.

The chorus of the song feels cyclical, with the lyrics repeating and building in intensity, like the whir of a turbine propelling something forward. This could be interpreted as a commentary on our societal impulses to constantly produce and achieve, even when it's not sustainable, leading to burnout and a lack of resources. The line "why do we try before we have none" could also be read as a question of why we continue to push ourselves when we know we're headed towards a crisis. Overall, the song seems to be asking us to question our own motivations and the societal norms that drive us to burnout.
