Barbra Streisand has recorded more than 60 albums, almost all with Columbia Records. Her early works in the 1960s (her debut The Barbra Streisand Album which won two Grammy Awards in 1963, followed by The Second Barbra Streisand Album, The Third Album, My Name Is Barbra, etc.) are considered classic renditions of theater and nightclub standards, including her version of Happy Days Are Here Again. Beginning with My Name Is Barbra, her albums were often medley-filled keepsakes of her television specials.
Starting in 1969, Streisand tackled contemporary songwriters; like many talented singers of the day, she found herself a fish out of water in attempts to tackle rock, but her vocal talents prevailed and she gained newfound success with the pop and ballad-oriented Richard Perry-produced album Stoney End in 1971. The title track, written by Laura Nyro, was a big hit for Streisand.
Streisand's 1980 album, Guilty featured the songwriting, production and vocal talents of Barry Gibb and was the best-selling album of her recording career. During the 1970s, she was also highly prominent in the pop charts, with number-one records like The Way We Were, Evergreen, No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (her duet with Donna Summer), and Woman In Love; some of these came from soundtracks of her films. She recently took part in supporting Haiti in singing "We are the World 25th anniversary.
When the 1970s ended, Streisand was named the most successful female singer in the U.S. - only Elvis Presley and The Beatles having sold more albums. [1]
[1] In 1982, New York Times music critic Stephen Holden wrote that Streisand was "the most influential mainstream American pop singer since Frank Sinatra."
All I Ask of You

Forget these wide-eyed fears
I'm here
Nothing can harm you
My words will warm and calm you
Let me be your freedom
Let daylight dry your tears
I'm here
To guard you and to guide you
Then say you love me every winter morning
Turn my head with talk of summertime
Say you need me with you now and always
Promise me that all you say is true
That's all I ask of you
Let me be your shelter
Let me be your light
You're safe
No one will find you
Your fears are far behind you
All we need is freedom
A world that's warm and bright
And you
Always beside me
To hold me and to hide me
Say you'll share with me one love
One lifetime
Let me lead you from your solitude
Say you need me with you here beside you
Anywhere you go, let me go too
That's all I ask of you
Say the word and I will follow you
Share each day with me
Each night, each morning
Say you feel the way I do
That's all I ask of you
Anywhere you go, let me go too
Love me
That's all I ask of you
The song "All I Ask of You" by Barbra Streisand is a powerful love song that expresses the desire for closeness and security in a romantic relationship. The lyrics delve into the depths of fear and uncertainty, but also offer the promise of protection and unconditional love. The opening lines may seem a little dark, but really they are portraying the negative thoughts that come into our minds which make us fearful of the future. However, the next few lines of the song imply that even in the depths of darkness and fear, love is there as a shelter, a light that will keep the singer safe.
The chorus of the song is a plea for reassurance and commitment. The singer is asking their partner to remain by their side and love them unconditionally, offering a symbolism of a true bond that lasts across seasons, days, nights and all time, a love that is shared and cherished by both partners every day. The last few lines of the song highlight the importance of unity and togetherness to make the relationship truly fulfilling. It is only with this unity and true love that the union remains unbreakable.
In conclusion, "All I Ask of You" is a very deep and meaningful song that excellently portrays the importance of love and the desire for security in a relationship. It is a reminder of the fact that, no matter what happens in life, one can always rely on the person they love to be there for them, in both good times and bad.
