Barbra Streisand has recorded more than 60 albums, almost all with Columbia Records. Her early works in the 1960s (her debut The Barbra Streisand Album which won two Grammy Awards in 1963, followed by The Second Barbra Streisand Album, The Third Album, My Name Is Barbra, etc.) are considered classic renditions of theater and nightclub standards, including her version of Happy Days Are Here Again. Beginning with My Name Is Barbra, her albums were often medley-filled keepsakes of her television specials.
Starting in 1969, Streisand tackled contemporary songwriters; like many talented singers of the day, she found herself a fish out of water in attempts to tackle rock, but her vocal talents prevailed and she gained newfound success with the pop and ballad-oriented Richard Perry-produced album Stoney End in 1971. The title track, written by Laura Nyro, was a big hit for Streisand.
Streisand's 1980 album, Guilty featured the songwriting, production and vocal talents of Barry Gibb and was the best-selling album of her recording career. During the 1970s, she was also highly prominent in the pop charts, with number-one records like The Way We Were, Evergreen, No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (her duet with Donna Summer), and Woman In Love; some of these came from soundtracks of her films. She recently took part in supporting Haiti in singing "We are the World 25th anniversary.
When the 1970s ended, Streisand was named the most successful female singer in the U.S. - only Elvis Presley and The Beatles having sold more albums. [1]
[1] In 1982, New York Times music critic Stephen Holden wrote that Streisand was "the most influential mainstream American pop singer since Frank Sinatra."

Goodnight, sleep tight
Now the sun turns out his light
Goodnight, sleep tight
Dream sweet dreams for me.
Dream sweet dreams for you
Close your eyes and I'll close mine
Now the moon begins to shine
Goodnight, sleep tight
Close your eyes and I'll close mine
Goodnight, sleep tight
Now the sun turns out his light
Goodnight, sleep tight
Dream sweet dream for me
Dream sweet dreams for you
Goodnight,
Everybody, everybody
Everywhere,
Goodnight,
Barbra Streisand's song "Goodnight" is a lullaby about saying goodbye to the day and heading off to sleep. The lines "Now it's time to say goodnight / Goodnight, sleep tight / Now the sun turns out his light / Goodnight, sleep tight" evoke a sense of calmness and tranquility, signalling the end of the day and the start of a peaceful night's sleep. The repetition of "dream sweet dreams for me" and "dream sweet dreams for you" reminds us of the importance of letting our minds wander in our dreams, and the power of our imagination.
The lyric "Now the moon begins to shine" highlights the transition from day to night and the imagery of the moon shining in the sky can be comforting to some. The closing lines, "Goodnight / Everybody, everybody / Everywhere, / Goodnight" gives a sense of community and togetherness, reminding us that we all share the same need for rest and sleep at the end of the day.

She takes my breath away every time. It has been about 50 years of her magical voice and I am grateful to have lived in her life time and be filled by her perfection.

Barbra was putting out so many albums so fast at this time in her career that this one just sort of slipped by without much fanfare. But nevertheless, her singing on What About Today is some of the best she's ever done. That note at 2:48 is just unreal.

A very moving performance for sure. Although Barbra has done a few Beatle songs, an entire album would have been truly incredible. Oh well, maybe in the next lifetime.
