Barbra Streisand has recorded more than 60 albums, almost all with Columbia Records. Her early works in the 1960s (her debut The Barbra Streisand Album which won two Grammy Awards in 1963, followed by The Second Barbra Streisand Album, The Third Album, My Name Is Barbra, etc.) are considered classic renditions of theater and nightclub standards, including her version of Happy Days Are Here Again. Beginning with My Name Is Barbra, her albums were often medley-filled keepsakes of her television specials.
Starting in 1969, Streisand tackled contemporary songwriters; like many talented singers of the day, she found herself a fish out of water in attempts to tackle rock, but her vocal talents prevailed and she gained newfound success with the pop and ballad-oriented Richard Perry-produced album Stoney End in 1971. The title track, written by Laura Nyro, was a big hit for Streisand.
Streisand's 1980 album, Guilty featured the songwriting, production and vocal talents of Barry Gibb and was the best-selling album of her recording career. During the 1970s, she was also highly prominent in the pop charts, with number-one records like The Way We Were, Evergreen, No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (her duet with Donna Summer), and Woman In Love; some of these came from soundtracks of her films. She recently took part in supporting Haiti in singing "We are the World 25th anniversary.
When the 1970s ended, Streisand was named the most successful female singer in the U.S. - only Elvis Presley and The Beatles having sold more albums. [1]
[1] In 1982, New York Times music critic Stephen Holden wrote that Streisand was "the most influential mainstream American pop singer since Frank Sinatra."
Heart Don't Change My Mind
Barbra Streisand Lyrics

Actin' like strangers ain't no way of making love
It's never gonna work, its time we stopped pretending
Time to turn the page, all stories need an ending
It makes no sense to stay
Living my life in yesterday
I'm leaving, I'm leaving,
And I'm begging you
Oh heart be strong this time
And try to help me tell him goodbye
It'll only bring pain for us to stay
Oh heart, it's hard for you I know
Let me let him go
Don't let me think about how good it was before
I know you'd try anything to keep me from that door
Its hard to leave him when you've loved him for so long now
How can I walk away if he's still holding on now
I've found the strength today
Look at me I can finally say
It's over, It's over
So I'm begging you
Heart don't change my mind
Oh heart be strong this time
And try to help me tell him goodbye
It'll only bring pain for us to stay
Oh heart, it's hard for you I know
Let me let him go
It makes no sense to stay
Sad that it has to end this way
It's over, It's over
Heart don't change my mind
Oh heart be strong this time
And try to help me tell him goodbye
It'll only bring pain for us to stay
Oh heart, it's hard for you I know
Let me let him go
In "Heart Don't Change My Mind," Barbra Streisand sings about the difficulty of ending a long-term relationship. The lyrics speak to the challenge of letting go of someone you've loved for a long time, even when you know it's time to move on. Streisand's beautiful voice carries the emotional weight of the song, making it clear just how difficult and heart-wrenching this decision is.
The verses of the song suggest that the couple has tried to make it work, but ultimately, pretending to be strangers isn't the answer. The singer knows that it's time to turn the page and end the relationship. She pleads with her heart not to change her mind or make her doubt her decision. She knows that staying with someone she no longer loves will only bring pain.
The chorus of "Heart Don't Change My Mind" encapsulates the struggle between the singer's heart and her head. She knows what needs to be done, but it's hard to follow through with it. Ending a long-term relationship is never easy, and Barbra Streisand's emotional performance of this song makes it clear just how difficult it can be.
