Barbra Streisand has recorded more than 60 albums, almost all with Columbia Records. Her early works in the 1960s (her debut The Barbra Streisand Album which won two Grammy Awards in 1963, followed by The Second Barbra Streisand Album, The Third Album, My Name Is Barbra, etc.) are considered classic renditions of theater and nightclub standards, including her version of Happy Days Are Here Again. Beginning with My Name Is Barbra, her albums were often medley-filled keepsakes of her television specials.
Starting in 1969, Streisand tackled contemporary songwriters; like many talented singers of the day, she found herself a fish out of water in attempts to tackle rock, but her vocal talents prevailed and she gained newfound success with the pop and ballad-oriented Richard Perry-produced album Stoney End in 1971. The title track, written by Laura Nyro, was a big hit for Streisand.
Streisand's 1980 album, Guilty featured the songwriting, production and vocal talents of Barry Gibb and was the best-selling album of her recording career. During the 1970s, she was also highly prominent in the pop charts, with number-one records like The Way We Were, Evergreen, No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (her duet with Donna Summer), and Woman In Love; some of these came from soundtracks of her films. She recently took part in supporting Haiti in singing "We are the World 25th anniversary.
When the 1970s ended, Streisand was named the most successful female singer in the U.S. - only Elvis Presley and The Beatles having sold more albums. [1]
[1] In 1982, New York Times music critic Stephen Holden wrote that Streisand was "the most influential mainstream American pop singer since Frank Sinatra."
If I Didn't Love You

I'd be safe from harm
I would never find myself
Lost inside your arms
If I didn't love you
I'd never feel the pain
Of sunny days without you
Drowning in the rain
If I didn't love you
Peace would rule the day
All the dark and out would surely go away
If I didn't love you
I wouldn't pay the cost
Of living every endless day
If our love is lost
If I didn't love you
If I didn't love you
And yet you make me breathless
At the way you move
I never knew that I
Could ever love the way we do
I don't know how you reach me
In that place in my heart
Belonging to only you
If I didn't love you
I wouldn't lose control
The danger loving brings a word
Never touch my soul
If I didn't love you
Perhaps I wouldn't die
If you should ever say to me
"I'm sorry, goodbye"
If I didn't love you
How can there be music
In the way you touch?
I can't believe that somehow
I believe in you so much
Now you've come and taught me
How to give you my heart
And make me feel at last
That the end will never start
You're the only reason
I'm not afraid to fall
For if I didn't love you
If I didn't love you
I wouldn't love at all, oh, mhm
The song “If I Didn’t Love You” by Barbra Streisand is a ballad which expresses the immense love the singer feels for someone. The lyrics revolve around how the love she has for this person is what makes her vulnerable and exposed to harm or pain, but at the same time, knowing that love is worth the risk. If she didn't love this person, then she would be safe from harm, but she wouldn't feel the way she does when she's with them.
The song implies that being in love is what brings chaos and turbidity to a person's life. Without loving someone, life would be peaceful and without any troubles. But the singer knows that love brings brightness to every day even in the darkest of times. The chorus of the song repeats, “If I didn't love you,” as the singer reflects on the fact that her love is the reason for her deepest fears, yet it's also her only salvation.
The lyrics of the song convey how love can expose us to a vast array of feelings, from joy to sorrow, and how it's always worth the risk. The song gives the message that true love is worth sacrificing everything we've got. It tells us that we should never be afraid of expressing our love for someone who means the world to us.
