Barbra Streisand has recorded more than 60 albums, almost all with Columbia Records. Her early works in the 1960s (her debut The Barbra Streisand Album which won two Grammy Awards in 1963, followed by The Second Barbra Streisand Album, The Third Album, My Name Is Barbra, etc.) are considered classic renditions of theater and nightclub standards, including her version of Happy Days Are Here Again. Beginning with My Name Is Barbra, her albums were often medley-filled keepsakes of her television specials.
Starting in 1969, Streisand tackled contemporary songwriters; like many talented singers of the day, she found herself a fish out of water in attempts to tackle rock, but her vocal talents prevailed and she gained newfound success with the pop and ballad-oriented Richard Perry-produced album Stoney End in 1971. The title track, written by Laura Nyro, was a big hit for Streisand.
Streisand's 1980 album, Guilty featured the songwriting, production and vocal talents of Barry Gibb and was the best-selling album of her recording career. During the 1970s, she was also highly prominent in the pop charts, with number-one records like The Way We Were, Evergreen, No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (her duet with Donna Summer), and Woman In Love; some of these came from soundtracks of her films. She recently took part in supporting Haiti in singing "We are the World 25th anniversary.
When the 1970s ended, Streisand was named the most successful female singer in the U.S. - only Elvis Presley and The Beatles having sold more albums. [1]
[1] In 1982, New York Times music critic Stephen Holden wrote that Streisand was "the most influential mainstream American pop singer since Frank Sinatra."
Make It Like a Memory

I was doing you no harm
I made you understand
All my life I've been that way
It happened long ago
Didn't I pray to love you through the night
I was dreaming wide awake
A sorry state
My heart has told me so
And the storm clouds gather overhead
No shelter we can share
Lie down on my flower bed
I got no control
I would sell my soul
To be there
So forever do or die
We just belong
Kiss hello, no wave goodbye
And the heat is stronger
For the moment when we touch
No wind can hold me
Come from loving you too much
And the nights are longer
Make it like a memory
Make it like a dream unreal
Make it like we never met
But I can't forget
It's how I feel
Make it like a memory
Take away the sound and the sight
There'll never be another love
With the power of, you and I
Maybe I'm wrong to hold you in my hand
I believed you when you lied
I tried to understand
All my life, I've been that way
It happened long ago
Make it like a memory
Make it like a dream unreal
Make it like we never ever met
But I can't forget
It's how I feel
Make it like a memory
Take away the sound and the sight
There'll never be another love
With the power of, you and I
The lyrics of Barbra Streisand's song Make It Like a Memory describe a complicated relationship between two people. The singer recalls a time when she held her lover in her hand and didn't harm him, but instead, made him understand her love. Despite their strong connection, the singer acknowledges that their love has caused them turmoil, with storm clouds gathering overhead and no shelter to share. The lyrics continue with conflicting emotions, with the singer wanting to sell her soul to be with her lover and acknowledging that they just belong together.
The second half of the song shifts to a more reflective tone, with the singer wishing to make their love a memory, taking away the sound and the sight of it. However, the singer cannot forget their powerful connection, and there will never be another love with the intensity of theirs.
Overall, the song explores the bittersweet nature of love and relationships, with conflicting emotions of longing and pain.
