Barbra Streisand has recorded more than 60 albums, almost all with Columbia Records. Her early works in the 1960s (her debut The Barbra Streisand Album which won two Grammy Awards in 1963, followed by The Second Barbra Streisand Album, The Third Album, My Name Is Barbra, etc.) are considered classic renditions of theater and nightclub standards, including her version of Happy Days Are Here Again. Beginning with My Name Is Barbra, her albums were often medley-filled keepsakes of her television specials.
Starting in 1969, Streisand tackled contemporary songwriters; like many talented singers of the day, she found herself a fish out of water in attempts to tackle rock, but her vocal talents prevailed and she gained newfound success with the pop and ballad-oriented Richard Perry-produced album Stoney End in 1971. The title track, written by Laura Nyro, was a big hit for Streisand.
Streisand's 1980 album, Guilty featured the songwriting, production and vocal talents of Barry Gibb and was the best-selling album of her recording career. During the 1970s, she was also highly prominent in the pop charts, with number-one records like The Way We Were, Evergreen, No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (her duet with Donna Summer), and Woman In Love; some of these came from soundtracks of her films. She recently took part in supporting Haiti in singing "We are the World 25th anniversary.
When the 1970s ended, Streisand was named the most successful female singer in the U.S. - only Elvis Presley and The Beatles having sold more albums. [1]
[1] In 1982, New York Times music critic Stephen Holden wrote that Streisand was "the most influential mainstream American pop singer since Frank Sinatra."
True Love
Barbra Streisand Lyrics

A true love who was something to see
I had myself a true love
At least that's what I kept on telling me
The first thing in the morning
I still try to think of a way to be with him
Some part of the evening
I had myself a true love, but now he's gone
And left me for good
The lord knows I don't hear those back yard
Whispers going round the neighborhood
There maybe a lot of things I miss
A lot of things I don't know
But I do know this, now I ain't got no love
And once upon a time I had a true love
In the evening, in the doorway
While I stand there and wait for his coming
With the house swept and the clothes hung
And a pot on the stove where I had meal
Where is he while I waste the rising newel?
Where is he? Why'd he gone so soon?
Now there ain't no way that it used to be, what now?
And everybody keeps telling me
There are may be a lot of things I miss
A lot of things I don't know
But I do know this now...
I ain't got no love
And once upon a time I had a true love.
The lyrics to Barbra Streisand's song True Love are a melancholic reflection on lost love. The singer reminisces about the time when she had a true love who was "something to see." She admits that even after the love is gone, she still wakes up each morning thinking of ways to be with him. She spends her evenings waiting for him, with the house swept and the pot on the stove where she had a meal for him. But ultimately, her love has left her for good, and the singer is left with nothing.
The lyrics reveal a sense of longing for the past, as the singer reflects on the way things used to be. She misses the love she once had and can't help but wonder where it all went wrong. The song's somber tone and melancholic melody capture the heartache of lost love, while Barbra Streisand's soulful vocals add to the emotional depth of the lyrics.

I love when Babs takes it down a notch & creates this delicate & fragile tone, just like 'The Love Inside' on her GUILTY album.
