Colors
Barcelona Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's hard for me to say what I want from
You I have had 22 years of
Trying to form the words that somehow
Might mean I am feeling

So many colors in this distraction
Brown hair makes her lips more red
Words would not describe what I'm seeing
I try to hold my tongue but it's useless

She makes my heart scream color
I know by now she should have found me out
Every sense I have has been exhausted
But color makes her smile

She's always waiting for me to speak
But all she hears is whitest noise
Though I may not communicate my heart
She knows the color I'm screaming

She makes my heart scream color
I know by now she should have found me out
And every sense I have has been exhausted
But color makes her smile

I feel it coming, I feel it coming
I feel it coming, I feel it coming
I feel it coming, I feel it coming
I feel it coming on

Whoa, she makes my heart scream color
I know by now she should have found me out
And every sense I have has been exhausted
But color makes her smile

Yeah, she makes my heart scream color
She should have found me out
Every sense I have has been exhausted

But color makes her smile
Color makes her smile

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song "Colors" by Barcelona poetically captures the singer's struggle to communicate their emotions to the object of their affection. The opening lines of the song highlight the difficulty in expressing one's feelings and desire. Despite having spent 22 years on this planet, the lyrics suggest that the singer has yet to overcome the challenge of articulating their emotions effectively. However, the use of colors throughout the song represents a metaphor for the various emotions and feelings that the singer is experiencing.

The singer mentions "so many colors in this distraction" and how "brown hair makes her lips more red," highlighting the intensity of their feelings towards their love interest. The singer is at a loss for words to accurately describe what they see and feel when they see their love interest, frequently struggling to hold their tongue.

Despite the lack of communication, the singer knows that their love interest understands the depth of their feelings. The lyrics suggest that every sense that the singer has has been exhausted, but it's the color that makes their love interest smile. As the song progresses, the singer feels their emotions intensifying, expressed through the repetition of "I feel it coming." The chorus reaffirms the strength of their love, with their heart screaming color unconditionally.

Overall, "Colors" by Barcelona is a beautifully crafted song that uses colors as metaphors for emotions and love. The singer struggles to communicate their feelings but finds solace in the suggestion that the person they love understands the intensity of their emotions.

I agree with blakesaysmoo! I heard this song for the first time today as I was running intervals. It got me pumped! Then, when I went and looked it up, I got the updated version. B-O-R-I-N-G. This version is the best!

amazing band!

It all depends on the label. Beck, for example, signed with Geffen because though it was less money he would have the most freedom of creativity. Fame ruins nothing, bands themselves ruin it by signing for more money and less control. Regardless, if someone chooses music as a career it's more than just a hobby. They're doing it to make money, and I cant justify saying that I don't want them to be successful.

This song is so nice to listen to :)

Personally as a lover of music, I like to see little known bands I enjoy become popular. To say you don't want them to be more successful (i.e. become "mainstream") is to say that you hate musicians and only care about their music. I like seeing them make money and become rich, and that does nothing to change their music. You shouldn't hope a bands popularity plateaus at borderline obscurity, it's disrespectful. Good musicians deserve notoriety. Good musicians can change the "mainstream"
