Having seen as a kid down at the creek ribbon, garter and brown snakes, which excited me, I wanted to see other types. Pilot blacksnakes were the best & a challenge. Drove up a country road and spotted some up in a tree, climbing up and down. Then saw a pair in a felled rotten log - they were a breeding pair, with eggs. It was just good to see them. Same with racers, mole snakes, ringed-necked, water, queen, chain king, mud and rainbow snakes. Geez I wish they were still around.

No matter how BAD of a day I've had, just coming home to handle my snakes makes it all that much better! We have all kinds of cat and dog rescues down here but no reptile rescues, so my question is how can one get certified and find backers?

@coldbloodedsam I had no idea how large they could be. It was awesome! It did not resist or try to bite. What a snake! There was a farm field where it was going with woods behind it. I found and caught a copperbelly water snake that was huge, much bigger than the others I had seen, even now. I filmed and let her go too. Coppers and the racers do not do well in captivity, as they need to move around alot, I mean alot - can you say 500 acres? 5 zoos tried but they all died.

There is a fallow up somewhere, I saw it and am trying to find it. All I remember is the ones that were fed larger meals once a week, grew the most. There was a huge difference between the largest and smallest group.

Kel, By and large I agree that a clean diet and an exercise program are an excellent lifestyle choice, I have to say though that having been there myself and being extremely devoted I got excellent results. It seemed unrealistic to keep the intensity so high. I was lifting six days a week and supplementing with protein. I feel though that this puts the body in an unreasonable metabolic state and as soon as there is the slightest regression the body puts on fat weight easier than ever before.

I like more frequent, smaller feedings. That way, my snake doesn't take as long to digest the food. Also, they're eating more meat and bones, as opposed to the fat they'd be taking in with large or jumbo prey.

I like the feeding experiment. I've never heard anyone rolling pinkies in the vitamin powder, Ive only seen it diluted in water and injected into the food item. Maybe you will have better luck with them taking it? Twinkie diet lol. Any good diet is about moderation.

When my snake was that young,i fed him one pinkie mouse every five days and now that hes older i switched it to one fuzzy mouse once a week.when they are that little,I recommend you feed it one mouse every five days and once it gets older,you can feed it once a week.

I just fed my two ball pythons last night. I got a spider male and a 3 foot female regular but with a really nice stripe going down part of her spine. I'm gonna get a Female pastel and try to breed out some bumblebees!

I think the snakes in "Team Thanksgiving" will win. One larger food item is better than two small, it takes energy from the snake to start the digesting process.

There are Burmese Pythons thriving and reproducing in the wilds of southern Florida. That's exciting. Where did they come from? Some say from pet owners who dumped them when they got too large, and other reasons. The excitement is that it is a chance to try to find them. How often do we get to hunt a python in the wild? If I were in FL, I would at least volunteer to try to find them. There a large retic that got loose here in a wooded suburb in 1978. I tried to find it, of course.

feeding snakes when i'm stoned seems to actually be good, I'm a lot more patient and can sit there for longer waiting for the snakes to take the prey, and it's just a lot more awesome to watch that way haha

I was maybe 4. My friend & I were making sand castles, going down a cabin path to get more sand. We must have walked that path maybe 20X. His Mother came out onto the porch where we were and said, " Boys, come up here now." We did. She pointed at a snake coiled beside our path&called the beach HQ. "Ned" came up with a dirt rake. He nudged it. It made a beeline for the brush. He tined it right in back of its head. He help it up, dead, in the full morning sun. It was a copperhead and beautiful.

I think you need twice as large of a meal for the biggest group that's being fed only once per week, twice as large as those ones meals being fed twice per week.

@Kel: I don't know about fad diets, but you Canadians have your food served right. I fell in love with Poutine when I first had it years ago, and I haven't had it since. It was so amazing and I want more of it! For those who don't know what Poutine is, it's french fries with cheese and gravy.... and it's the best tasting french fry variety ever! EVER! Americans need to invest in it!

With all these fad diets, I have to agree. Most of them are total crap! However, I and my sister have both tried the HCG diet and it worked. I lost about 25lbs and my sister lost over 30. It was a serious life changing event. Kel is right though, no diet will get you in shape. Its eating properly and exercising is what will get you into a Lean, Mean, Snake-Breeding Machine. Keep up the awesome work BHB crew!

@coldbloodedsam The rats, racers and kings do eat eggs, and they are not rear-fanged. Some say that hognoses have enlarged and maybe mildly-venomous rear teeth to puncture a toad's huffing up. I guess each one has its own way of eating, hiding and providing. They are amazing. I have found wild black/grey/yellow rat snakes, 2 racers (never cud catch a black racer), chain and red king snakes, worm snakes, mud and rainbow snakes over my younger years. I found endangered ones - another stories.

TWINPOSSIBLE BALL PYTHONS

(HELP PLEASE FROM EXPERIENCED BP OWNERS ON FOOD SIZE) I am feeding hopper mice to my 5 month and 2 month old BPS. One boy/ one girl. It doesn't leave much of a lump after the initial intake but the small adult mice seem too large for both of them, although we bought them. This is very hard to gauge. They should go by grams and tell us what to get, which would be easier, however, I guess some still may be thicker, cause mine are close. The 5 month old looked very satisfied and laid under his substrate for nearly 2 days straight (I was sleeping at night though, so who knows there), and digested in a warmer spot and she seemed to still be pretty lively after her meal and she is 2 months. I don't wanna underfeed but do not wanna overfeed, so i guess feeding less sounds best, that was their 1st meal from me, so I am glad I did not use the bigger mice, and I just wish it was easier to tell so you knew exactly what to buy. ANY CHART OUT THERE? In inch across ='s this size mouse, etc. etc. My boy is 1 inch 1/8th, so you think an 8 gram hopper was enough? They look decent going in. (The breeders fed live, but I got them to both eat F/T their 1st meal (yay!) The small adult is 18 grams (SO A BIG difference.) The breeder of the smaller BP told me to soon switch her over to rat pups as it's harder to get them to eat them down the road, and is cheaper in the long run, how big are they in comparison?? I'd say my female is an inch across, he's just longer for sure.

I am a new mama in love with my babies. I want long healthy lives for them. I figure you can always give more but not take back. I want to order online but i have nooo clue how to do that and get it right, plus they grow too. It's very expensive. 3 hoppers and 3 small adult mice almost $20 but online you get SOOO much more. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? I appreciate the help in advance :)).

I have a Mexican black kingsnake that is still young, and I was wondering about feeding since he is in-between being fed pinkies and fuzzies at the moment. Most fuzzies bought at the store are too big, but pinkies are too small, and so I was wondering what the best route to feeding him would be. Is it better to feed him 2 pinkies or more every time I feed him or is it better to feed him a fuzzy that is slightly too big but feed him less frequently?

It's better to feed him 2 pinkies because of u feed him something to buy he will end up throwing it up which can cause some problems for the snake just feed him two pinkies if u see he's eating them really fast and u don't really notice a lump or that he's searching try three after three go on to a fuzzy

i think that smaller meals more ofter is going to get them growing faster, more frequent eating will lead to more grams of pinkies being eaten thus growing to a larger snake

Nice vid guys! I think the diets are not exactly the best... ´cause there is this stupid thing called "yoyo-effect" and i think it really sucks!!! I agree with Kel, though... think thats the best way to loose weight. By the way: I have something between a "Snake Myth" and another "Chewy Challenge": Does hand cream(or something like that) make (normally) tame snakes bite you? Or does it maybe even prevent you from getting bit by a (normaly) more "agressive" snake??

@coldbloodedsam I did raise the young of wild massasauga rattlesnakes, snapping turtles and copperbellies over a winter. Then in the Spring I released them back into the habitats where they were taken, except the massasaugas. Those I released into a protected habitat where another population occurred, far away from people. Others have tried and a few are trying to "headstart" juvies to release the next year into a population that is almost extirpated, but with enough habitat. I relocated herps 2

Yeah if you really want to lose weight just eat right and be active. I went from 215lbs to 174lbs by eating a little less / eating healthy and walking / running :) :)

Eating healthy and excersizing regularly is the way to go, and choosing one pigout day during the week;). But I enjoy being lazy over school vacations and wake up around 10:30(lunch time) so it helps me skip one meal during the day. Sneaky diet!

soft furred rats are the number one thing to feed to a ball python. if you feed 1 ball only mice and the other only soft furs with, both the same feeding response. you'll see with in a month that the soft fur ball will be a hell of a lot bigger

Even though i don't smoke it for medical use im not a complete stoner. I can't see anything wrong with it. The only thing that happens to me is i get happy, sleepy, hungry, and smart. If it was't for purple kush i wouldn't have graduated high school with a 4.0 :)

Try pinkies. If it won't eat pinkies, feed them Cloud Fish, or Neon Fish. NOT GOLD FISH. a lot of small fish have an enzyme called Thiamine which can/will eventually kill your snake, including gold fish, so ask the pet store which small fish they have without thiamine

Some diets are ok but it all comes down to one thing, calories out>calories in. I myself work out every 2nd or 3rd day plus that I do some daily running and I eat loads of proteins, good fat,carbohydrates and a lot of chilli(cuz it's awesome).
