BarlowGirl's Philosophy
The band has gained a following with their "Anti-Conformity" message of "Don't be conformed, be Transformed" from Romans 12:1-2. Besides believing in abstinence and modesty, the band has also taken a stand on not dating, but their main message remains that people should look to God for love and security, and he will bring everything else into our lives. Very simply, trust God. They encourage people to trust the unseen. Just because you can't see God doesn't mean He isn't there!
Self Titled Debut Album
BarlowGirl instantly hit the spotlight in 2004 with their acclaimed self-titled debut album, coupled with the success of its first single, Never Alone. The longest running No. 1 song in 2004 on R&R’s CHR and CRW Rock charts, Never Alone was named "Song of the Year" on each of these charts. The CD has sold over 250,000 units (as of April 2005) and featured the singles Never Alone and Mirror which both garnered much airplay on Christian radio stations. These number one songs earned the trio four 2005 GMA (Gospel Music Association) awards (formerly the Dove Award) award nominations, including the prestigious Best New Artist award, Best Rock Song and Rock Album. The trio was the best selling new Christian artist of 2004. BarlowGirl received a 2006 GMA award nomination for Rock/Contemporary Song of the Year for Mirror.
Another Journal Entry
Their second album, Another Journal Entry, was released on September 27, 2005. The first single from the album, Let Go, had already begun receiving airplay on Christian radio stations. Their next single from this album, I Need You to Love Me, has also received recent some airplay on some Christian radio stations after the album's debut. The album debuted at #3 on Soundscan's Christian album chart, and, as of Oct. 10, is at 85 on Billboards Top 200 Current Albums chart. The trio was nominated for three additional 2006 GMA (Gospel Music Association) awards: Group of the Year, Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year, and and Rock Recorded Song of the Year for Let Go.
I Need You To Love Me

Didn't you see what I've done?
In my shame I want to run and hide myself
But it's here I see the truth
I don't deserve you
But I need you to love me, and I
I won't keep my heart from you this time
Somehow deserve what I already have
I need you to love me
I, I have wasted so much time
Pushing you away from me
I just never saw how much you could cherish me
Cuz you're a God who has all things
And still you want me
But I need you to love me, and I
I won't keep my heart from you this time
So I'll stop this pretending that I can
Somehow deserve what I already have
I need you to love me
Your love makes me forget what I have been
Your love makes me see who I really am
Your love makes me forget what I have been
But I need you to love me, and I
I won't keep my heart from you this time
So I'll stop this pretending that I can
Somehow deserve what I already have
I need you to love me
The lyrics to BarlowGirl's "I Need You To Love Me" speak to a universal human theme of feeling unworthy of love and forgiveness. The singer acknowledges their own mistakes and shameful behavior, feeling as though they do not deserve the love of the person they are addressing in the song. However, the chorus begs for that person's love anyway, acknowledging that without it, the singer may continue to feel lost and disconnected from themselves and the world. The repeated refrain emphasizes the singer's desperation for true love and acceptance, recognizing that it is necessary for personal growth and healing.
The use of religious language in the lyrics may be interpreted in a number of ways, but it could be suggested that the intended audience for this song is a higher power or deity rather than a human partner. The language of forgiveness and redemption points to themes of Christianity, which the group has identified with publicly. However, regardless of the specific belief system of the listener, the message of the song still resonates. The desire to be loved and forgiven is a universal human experience, regardless of its roots.
Overall, "I Need You To Love Me" is a powerful message of vulnerability and the universal human need for love and acceptance. It speaks to the fear of being unlovable and the acknowledgement of one's own flaws and mistakes, and the hope that they can still be loved despite them. Through the use of religious language and powerful vocals and melody, the song packs an emotional punch that is difficult to ignore.

@soulsweet15
As a true believer of Jesus Christ I have made many mistakes in my life, and at one point I gave up on God, my family and friends. This song has showed me that even though i have made mistakes in my past life, there is hope in they eyes of God. God has been there for me through thick and thin, and never again will I walk away. He does love me, and each and every day I will always need him to love me. Thank God for his loving mercy.
