BarlowGirl's Philosophy
The band has gained a following with their "Anti-Conformity" message of "Don't be conformed, be Transformed" from Romans 12:1-2. Besides believing in abstinence and modesty, the band has also taken a stand on not dating, but their main message remains that people should look to God for love and security, and he will bring everything else into our lives. Very simply, trust God. They encourage people to trust the unseen. Just because you can't see God doesn't mean He isn't there!
Self Titled Debut Album
BarlowGirl instantly hit the spotlight in 2004 with their acclaimed self-titled debut album, coupled with the success of its first single, Never Alone. The longest running No. 1 song in 2004 on R&R’s CHR and CRW Rock charts, Never Alone was named "Song of the Year" on each of these charts. The CD has sold over 250,000 units (as of April 2005) and featured the singles Never Alone and Mirror which both garnered much airplay on Christian radio stations. These number one songs earned the trio four 2005 GMA (Gospel Music Association) awards (formerly the Dove Award) award nominations, including the prestigious Best New Artist award, Best Rock Song and Rock Album. The trio was the best selling new Christian artist of 2004. BarlowGirl received a 2006 GMA award nomination for Rock/Contemporary Song of the Year for Mirror.
Another Journal Entry
Their second album, Another Journal Entry, was released on September 27, 2005. The first single from the album, Let Go, had already begun receiving airplay on Christian radio stations. Their next single from this album, I Need You to Love Me, has also received recent some airplay on some Christian radio stations after the album's debut. The album debuted at #3 on Soundscan's Christian album chart, and, as of Oct. 10, is at 85 on Billboards Top 200 Current Albums chart. The trio was nominated for three additional 2006 GMA (Gospel Music Association) awards: Group of the Year, Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year, and and Rock Recorded Song of the Year for Let Go.
Song For The Broken
BarlowGirl Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The definition of this western world
And I have perfected deceit
Even I believe I am above saving
And I'll never let You see
I am the broken
I am the bruised
I have been used
It takes me falling to the ground
To admit to fully needing You
Then when I'm breathing my last breath
Come and save me, I will cry to You
'Cause pride has not let me say
I am the broken
I am the bruised
I am the poor ones
I have been used
Why does it take so much to bring me to my knees?
Why does it take so much pain for me to see?
If strength is only found when I am on my knees
Why is it so hard to show that I am weak?
I am the broken
I am the bruised
I am the poor ones
I have been used
In BarlowGirl's Song For The Broken, the lyrics depict a portrayal of a person's perception of themselves as being comfortable and secure in their Western lifestyle. This has led to self-deception where they believe they are above saving and refuse to admit their brokenness. It takes a moment of being on their knees, feeling like they are falling to the ground and a realization of their need for help to admit that they are broken and in need of salvation from God. This person recognizes that their pride has been holding them back from admitting that they are weak and in need of God's grace.
The lyrics are not only raw and honest but also hold a powerful message of humility and acknowledging one's brokenness. It stresses that only through realizing our weakness and vulnerability that we can access strength and come to rely on God. It is a reminder of the power of admitting our mistakes and taking responsibility for our actions. The repetition of the chorus serves as a call to those who are broken, bruised, and have been used to rise up and find hope in acknowledging their weakness.

the vocal talent in this group, outstanding, never mind the beauty. Problem is they always make my eye turn red. Where does God live? In the praises of his people, that's where.

A lot of people have been used and broken. It is sad. I am right with everyone to let them know that there are people who still care, even if it hasn't happened to them. And also remember. We love you.
