Ayle… Read Full Bio ↴Barns Courtney (born Barnaby George Courtney on 17 November 1990 in
Aylesbury, England) is an English singer, songwriter and musician.
Courtney spent a large part of his childhood in Seattle,USA, before returning to home country UK as a 15-year-old. This change of scenery comes across as clearly in his eclectic mix of US blues-rock, hip-hop and grunge with British indie melodic sensibilities, as it does in his hybrid US-British twang.
Playing in various projects and bands growing up whilst developing his sound, Barns incarnation as a solo artist has been an unexpectedly fast paced one. At the end of 2015, his first track ‘Glitter & Gold’, with its rocking gospel-blues and Barns’ honey & sand delivery, soared to #1 on the UK Spotify Viral Chart, #2 on the iTunes Alternative Chart, was added to the BBC Introducing Playlist, clocked hundred of thousands of plays on YouTube, and was featured on the ITV Winter 2015 drama reel, all in the span of two months.
‘Goodbye John Smith’, a poignant piano ballad that channels ageless song-and-voice men such as Johnny Cash and Tom Waits, hit the radars of tastemakers online and further spread the word about Barns, earning him a spot as one of Channel 4’s Future Sounds artists that year.
Barns Courtney released his debut EP, ‘Hands’, a four-track collection, in 2016 on Virgin EMI.

Yeah, we had no fear
Way back when we said
We'd both be millionaires
Now those days are over
And we are all ghosts
We used to sleep all day and talk all night
When your baby teeth ain't milky white
Wipe the stardust from your eyes (oh, oh)
I said "oh come on love, we'll be just fine
We're gonna live just like it's 1999"
In 1990
In 1999
In 1990
In 1999
Back then we were trading
Cards behind the swings
Oh no, now it's money, gold, and diamond rings
Now those days are over
And we are all ghosts
We used to sleep all day and talk all night
Stay up by the TV light (oh, oh)
When your baby teeth ain't milky white
Wipe the stardust from your eyes (oh, oh)
I said "oh come on love, we'll be just fine
We're gonna live just like it's 1999"

The song "99" by Barns Courtney is a nostalgic track that reminisces on the carefree days of youth in the 90s. The lyrics nostalgically paint a picture of two young people who had no fear and had dreams of becoming millionaires. The song talks about how things have changed, and those days are over, and the two are now just ghosts of their former selves.
The chorus of the song is catchy, and it emphasizes the theme of nostalgia. The lyrics talk about how the couple used to stay up all night, watch TV, and talk until dawn. When things seemed challenging, the singer encouraged his love interest to keep going and told her they would be fine despite their lack of wealth. The chorus repeats the words "We're gonna live just like it's 1999" to emphasize that they would live with the same carefree attitude they had in their youth.
Overall the song is a reminder of the wild and exciting days of youth and the rush of limitless possibilities it brings. It's a beautiful song with a relatable message that plays on the heartstrings of anyone who remembers what it was like to be young.
