Money
Barrett Strong Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The best things in life are free
But you can give then to the birds and bees
I need money (that's what I want)
That's what I want (that's what I want)
That's what I want (that's what I want)
That's what I want (that's what I want)

Your love give me such a thrill
But your love don't pay my bills
I need money (that's what I want)
That's what I want (that's what I want)
That's what I want (that's what I want)
That's what I want (that's what I want)

Money don't get everything, it's true
But what it don't get, I can't use
I need money (that's what I want)
That's what I want (that's what I want)
That's what I want (that's what I want)
That's what I want (that's what I want)

Money (that's what I want)
Lots of money (that's what I want)
Whole lot of money (that's what I want)
Aha (that's what I want)
Aha ha ha ha ha(that's what I want)
Whoa yeah (that's what I want)

Give me money (that's what I want)
Lots of money (that's what I want)
Always need greens (that's what I want)
That's right baby that's what I need(that's what I want)
Aha ha ha ha ha (that's what I want)
Whoa yeah (that's what I want)

Give me money
Lots of money

Overall Meaning

All I know is that GOD Loves HUMANITY.
The GOD that we all wish for and want to believe.
The GOD that knows nothing but LOVE.
GOD does not believe in hurting one another.
GOD wants us to stop hurting each other.
Stop the violence. Stop fighting.
And just how do we do that?
With LOVE.
LOVE what you think are your enemies. For they too want the same thing. That is PEACE.
NEVER EYE FOR AN EYE.
We as a Whole do not need Leaders who say that they will fight for you. We are tired of what you think we need. We as a WHOLE will have the right LEADERS who say we can work TOGETHER!!!

RIP Mr. Strong. You were so important in getting Motown up and running. As a skinny white kid growing up in the mid-west I was addicted to the music coming out of Detroit. Still my favorite 60 years later. You wrote and co-wrote phenomenal songs with some of the greatest singers of all time! Timeless music, thanks so much.
