Barry Bostwick/Susan Sarandon Lyrics

Hey, Janet
Yes, Brad?

I've got something to say
Uh huh
I really loved the skilful way
You beat the other girls to the bride's bouquet
Oh, Brad

The river was deep but I swam it (Janet)
The future is ours so let's plan it (Janet)
So please don't tell me to can it (Janet)
I've one thing to say and that's
Dammit, Janet, I love you

The road was long but I ran it (Janet)
There's a fire in my heart and you fan it (Janet)
If there's one fool for you then I am it (Janet)
I've one thing to say and that's
Dammit, Janet, I love you

Here's a ring to prove that I'm no joker
There's three ways that love can grow
That's good, bad or mediocre
Oh J-A-N-E-T I love you so

Oh, it's nicer than Betty Munroe had (oh Brad)
Now we're engaged and I'm so glad (oh Brad)
That you've met mum and you know dad (oh Brad)
I've one thing to say and that's
Brad I'm mad for you too

Oh, Brad

Oh, dammit

I'm mad

Oh, Janet

For you

I love you too
There's one thing left to do, and that's

Go see the man who began it (Janet)
When we met in his science exam-it (Janet)
Made me give you the eye and then panic (Janet)
Now I've one thing to say and that's
Dammit, Janet, I love you

Dammit, Janet

Oh Brad, I'm mad

Dammit Janet

I love you

Overall Meaning

The song "Dammit Janet" from the musical "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is a declaration of love between the two main characters, Brad and Janet. In the song, Brad expresses his love for Janet in a playful and energetic way, with both characters singing together in harmony. Brad recalls the moment at the wedding where Janet caught the bouquet, and the lyrics hint at how Brad sees Janet as the only one for him. He talks about how he swam through the river and ran on a long road to be with Janet, and how she has put a fire in his heart. Brad even suggests that he is willing to get engaged and settle with Janet: "Here's a ring to prove that I'm no joker." The song ends with both characters agreeing to visit the man who brought them together, leading into the next scene.

The lyrics of "Dammit Janet" are playful, humorous, and full of puns. The song is also a satire of traditional musical love ballads. The use of the name "Janet" itself is a reference to the type of love songs that typically feature a female name. The song also references the good, bad, or mediocre nature of love, in contrast to traditional love ballads that portray love as perfect and always positive. The song is a fun, lively expression of love, which fits perfectly with the playful and irreverent tone of the "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."

@RoseHowat

The half assed "Janet" cracks me up

@02protoman

Disturbing to think that the clergy is actually: Frank, Riff Raff, Columbia, and Magenta (without their make up)

@justindel888

+02protoman do you think that was cause of casting budgets? or was it purposely donethat way.

@02protoman

I think it was done purposely, because the story for Brad and Janet follows a theme of spoiled Β innocence, so it would make sense to have those "characters" be in a church so cleverly disguised, but not make a big deal out of it
