Mona Lisa

You're so like the lady with the mystic smile
Is it only cause you're lonely they have blamed you
For that Mona Lisa strangeness in your smile
Do you smile to tempt a lover Mona Lisa?
Or is this your way to hide a broken heart?
Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep
They just lie there, and they die there
Or just a cold and lonely, lovely work of art.
Do you smile to tempt a lover Mona Lisa?
Or is this your way to hide a broken heart?
Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep
They just lie there, and they die there
Are you warm, are you real Mona Lisa?
Or just a cold and lonely, lovely work of art.
Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa.
Barry Crocker's song "Mona Lisa" is an ode to Leonardo da Vinci's famous portrait of the same name. The song starts by addressing the subject of the painting and questioning why men have named her Mona Lisa. The lyrics suggest that her resemblance to the lady with the mystic smile is the reason behind her name. However, there is a certain strangeness about her smile that the men have blamed on her loneliness. The question of whether the smile is to tempt a lover or hide a broken heart is raised. The lyrics also talk about how many dreamers have come to her doorstep, but their dreams have just died there.
The song reflects on the mystery and beauty of the painting's subject. It raises questions about her personality and emotions, wondering if behind her smile is a warm and real person or just a lovely work of art. The lyrics reveal the fascination that men have had with the painting for centuries, trying to decode the meaning of the enigmatic smile.
