In 1978, five of his albums were on the best-selling charts simultaneously, a feat equaled only by Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and Johnny Mathis. He has recorded a string of Billboard hit singles and multi-platinum albums that have resulted in his being named Radio & Records number one Adult Contemporary artist and winning three straight American Music Awards for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist. Several well-known entertainers have given Manilow their "stamp of approval," including Sinatra, who was quoted in the 1970s regarding Manilow, "He's next." In 1988, Bob Dylan stopped Manilow at a party, hugged him and said, "Don't stop what you're doing, man. We're all inspired by you."
As well as producing and arranging albums for other artists, such as Bette Midler and Dionne Warwick, Manilow has written songs for musicals, films, and commercials. From February 2005 to December 30, 2009, he was the headliner at the Las Vegas Hilton, performing hundreds of shows before ending relationship with the hotel. From March 2010, he has headlined at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas. He has sold more than 80 million records worldwide
Somewhere In the Night

And I found love enough to hold you
So tonight I'll stir the fire you feel inside
Until the flames of love enfold you
Layin' beside you lost in the feeling
So glad you opened my door, come with me
Somewhere in the night we will know
Everything lovers can know
I'll play you over and over again
Lovin' so warm, movin' so right
Closin' our eyes and feelin' alive
We'll just go on burnin' bright
Somewhere in the night
You'll sleep when the mornin' comes
And I'll lie and watch you sleepin'
And you'll smile when you dream about the night
Like it's a secret you've been keepin'
Layin' beside you lost in the feeling
So glad you opened my door
You're my song, music too magic to end
I'll play you over and over again
Lovin' so warm, movin' so right
Closin' our eyes and feelin' alive
We'll just go on burnin' bright
Somewhere in the night
We'll just go on burnin' bright
Somewhere in the night!!
(We'll just go on burnin' bright)
(Somewhere in the night)
(We'll just go on burnin' bright)
(Somewhere in the night)
(We'll just go on burnin' bright)
The lyrics of Barry Manilow's "Somewhere in the Night" is a love song that tells the story of two lovers who have found each other and are wholly committed to one another. The song speaks of the love they have discovered and how they will keep it burning bright, even in the darkest of hours. It begins with the singer acknowledging how much love he has found and how grateful he is that he has someone to hold. He then goes on to say he will keep that flame of love alive and burning bright by stirring the fire inside the person he loves. This could be interpreted as him promising to keep the love alive by constantly showering his significant other with affection and attention.
As the song progresses, the singer talks about how he will play the music of their love over and over again, indicating that their love is not just a passing fling but something that is enduring and everlasting. As they lie together lost in the feeling, he realizes that this person is the missing piece to his life's puzzle. He is thankful that they chose to open the door for him, which allowed them to find each other.
The song emphasizes the importance of committing to one's partner, of being open and vulnerable, and of appreciating the love one has found. Simply put, Barry Manilow's "Somewhere in the Night" is a poignant love song celebrating two people caught up in the excitement of newfound love.

And my depression right now. Helen Reddy was singing this. I looked over and asked my crippled love if I could pull her off the porch swing and try to dance with her. We did. Then I realized where I had heard that song first.
