In 1978, five of his albums were on the best-selling charts simultaneously, a feat equaled only by Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and Johnny Mathis. He has recorded a string of Billboard hit singles and multi-platinum albums that have resulted in his being named Radio & Records number one Adult Contemporary artist and winning three straight American Music Awards for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist. Several well-known entertainers have given Manilow their "stamp of approval," including Sinatra, who was quoted in the 1970s regarding Manilow, "He's next." In 1988, Bob Dylan stopped Manilow at a party, hugged him and said, "Don't stop what you're doing, man. We're all inspired by you."
As well as producing and arranging albums for other artists, such as Bette Midler and Dionne Warwick, Manilow has written songs for musicals, films, and commercials. From February 2005 to December 30, 2009, he was the headliner at the Las Vegas Hilton, performing hundreds of shows before ending relationship with the hotel. From March 2010, he has headlined at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas. He has sold more than 80 million records worldwide
Welcome Home

I have seen
Far away places
Wild and serene
But nothing I saw
Prepared me for
The mat on the floor
Saying "welcome home"
Time flies
See the moon rise
As I'm makin' my way
Through another long day
But I'll go
To a place I know
In my heart I know
There's just no place
Like home
Welcome home
Welcome home
To that place
That's safe and warm
Always a shelter
From the storm
I'm going home
Welcome home
Roll out the welcome mat
For me!
I'm goin' home
Sometimes
I remember
All the days I never knew
If I would ever make it through
But just when
I'd give up again
I'd remember when the days
Were stormy
Home was always
Waitin' for me
Sayin'
Welcome home
Welcome home
Where there will always be
A welcoming light on
Just for me
When I go home
Welcome home
No place
That I would rather be
Than goin' home
In my heart I know
That someday when my time
Is drawing near
I'm gonna hear
Welcome home
Welcome home
Where there will always be
Somebody waiting
There for me
When I go home
Home sweet home
Everyone's smilin' just for me
When I go home
In my heart I see
Somebody waiting
There for me
Welcome home
Welcome home
It looks like a
Starlight symphony
I'm goin' home
The lyrics of Barry Manilow's song "Welcome Home" are full of nostalgia and yearning for a place of comfort and safety. The song begins with Manilow reflecting on the many places he has seen in his life, both wild and serene, yet nothing has prepared him for the welcoming mat that says "welcome home." This line signifies the comfort and warmth that comes with being in a place that you call home. The song then goes on to describe the passage of time and the struggles one may face along the way, but in the end, there is always a place to return to that is familiar and welcoming.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "welcome home" several times, emphasizing the importance of having a place to call home. Manilow describes home as a safe and warm place, always a shelter from the storm, and the welcoming light always on, just for him. The song concludes by looking into the future, imagining the joy of returning home one last time and being greeted with smiles and a starlight symphony.
This song is a powerful reminder of the significance of home and the comfort it provides us throughout our lives, no matter how far we may wander. The lyrics are beautifully written, capturing the emotions of homesickness and the value of a sense of belonging.
