Hello @ashrafieh,

I am a french and i just read a great book from one of the few french volunteer who fought on the christian side, mostly with the kataeb, during the beginning of the war in 1976. He spent a couple days in the holliday inn and talk about the guys who was fighting there. He said the last day only 6 kataeb fighters was still there, 4 manage to escape and the two others got killed, one was effectively threw out of the building alive …
On his first day in the hotel with the kataeb guys, he said they clearly told him to respect one rule « don’t shoot kids or women », and then they take him to the elevator and show him like 15 floor below the body of a kataeb guy who didn’t listen and was thrown for shooting like a maniac. Unfortunately, he also said later in his book, that clearly palestinian wasn’t embarrassing themselves with such things and was killings kids and women left and right …

The man who wrote the book is called Emmanuel Albach and you can find on youtube a nearly 3hours interview of him speaking on his experience of the war in lebanon fighting with the Christians. If you understand french, you can check it out.

I hope i don’t make too Many mistakes in my message, anyway hats off to you and your beautiful people (christians lebanese) sorry that our cowards politics here didn’t do more to help at the time …

Much love to Beirut and specially Achrafieh !! 🇫🇷🇱🇧

I lived a long time of my childhood in the street hundert meters away right in front of the holiday inn. Though it was war I don’t to miss the experience had ever lived there. I can tell a story of almost every corner shown. Thanks for creating and sharing this film.

Thank you for literally painting a very accurate image. Born in 1964 and lived throughout the war within walking distance from the Holiday Inn !. I can relate to every scene. Never held a weapon but managed to cheat death countless times. Immigrated to Canada in 1990 as Canada will remain my home forever.

And by the way Al Jazeera thanks for the documentary. You guys provide that different angle or perspective that I look for. Thanks for the vast amount of resources you provide the public. Keep up the good work. God bless

The building should be reused again not as a hotel but turned into a Civil War Museum and Memorial Hall in which the exterior with the bullet holes are preserved and covered with windows while the interior is completely renovated.
