Assuming you understood my answer (if you don't now, you eventually will when we get deeper into the theory), you might be wondering why the simplest major scale starts on C instead of on A. It's because the major scale wasn't always the "base" or most preferred scale. In fact, before the major scale was developed, this series of half-steps and whole-steps was preferred: W H W W H W W. And if you start that sequence on A, you get the notes A B C D E F G A!

Great job, Hannah. I like the layout of this video. It's all a great review for me. I look forward to seeing more.

That is a fascinating and complex question. It'll be easier to understand my answer if you've gotten through lessons 2 and 3. I'm going to post a second comment that will hopefully fit all the characters in my answer!

Thanks for these lessons, truly helped. Possible to do a video on the circle of fifths and how to discover any given chord?

Basically, our naming of notes (and arrangement of notes on the piano) is based on the major scale. The major scale comes from the Ancient Greeks, who believed it to be the most "natural" sounding progression of notes. So if the system of music is based on the major scale, it makes sense to have a system of naming notes that allows you to "spell" a major scale with simple letter names, and no #'s or ♭'s.
