Love You More

You can make the sea turn infertile
But you know you can never make me love you more
You can turn wine into water
Turn sadness into laughter
But you know you can never make me love you more
[Chorus]
So you know you can never make me love you more
Let the redwoods die, let the wells run dry
So you know you can never make me love you more
You can make the sea turn purple
You can make the sea turn infertile
But you know you can never make me love you more
You can turn wine into water
Turn sadness into laughter
But you know you can never make me love you more
[Chorus: x2]
The lyrics of Basshunter's "Love You More" convey a sense of unwavering devotion to a lover who is trying to prove their love through grandiose and impossible feats. This is symbolized by the lines, "You can make the sea turn purple / You can make the sea turn infertile" and "You can turn wine into water / Turn sadness into laughter". The singer acknowledges the impressiveness of these feats, but emphasizes that they will not increase their love for the person. The chorus repeats the sentiment that nothing can make the singer love the person more and uses metaphors to reinforce this: "Let the stars fall down" and "Let the redwoods die".
The song speaks to the idea that love is not quantifiable or something that can be earned through grand gestures, but rather something that is given from the heart. No amount of impressive accomplishments or displays of power can force someone to love another more than they already do. The repeated lines "You know you can never make me love you more" emphasize the certainty of the singer's stance and the futility of the other person's actions.
Overall, "Love You More" can be seen as a declaration of unconditional love, as well as a criticism of the notion that love can be won through material or superficial means. It suggests that true love is something that cannot be forced, but rather something that is freely given and received.
