I'm pretty sure the pantheon is the last song in the soundtrack, With the first track being rucks giving a spoken intro. As a result I'd like to think that the entire Soundtrack of the game is actually played by rucks, making him both the narrator and the musical accompaniment throughout the kids journey.

I still believe this song is an admonishing critique on mortal pride, specifically against the Caelondians. "The Ura feared and respected Gods. We put Their faces on our walls, and turned Them into toys." I think deep down, Rucks knows the City had it coming. It was only a matter of time before their hubris, the "loaded gun," would literally blow up in their faces.

I believe in the game, it plays when you unlock the shrine - each idol gives positive and negative bonuses, so the song is a warning that when you invoke the gods (idols) you'll be sorry for what you've done.

I always liked this song in that it felt like the kid was taking on the punishments of his people, despite not even being at fault for anything. all he ever knew was to bear with it and overcome, as he did with zulf, as he would against the gods.

It always felt to me like it's a song that Rucks sings to his younger self. Though it also counts as singing it to Zulf. Especially the 'when you play with a loaded gun' line.

I didn't understand why invoking the gods would make the enemies more powerful, but then I remembered what Rucks said, that it's like a trial the gods set out for the Kid with rewards in shards and XP for it.

The way each character song kind of references them and what they're about- Zulf's about wanting to go home- to his people, but also to a wife and family he was trying to build and his own suicidal thoughts in grief for his loss, Zia's about her homeland and discovering her roots, as well as how she personally ties into the conflict between the two nations. This song is for Rucks is about punishment and (lack of) forgiveness- he feels his own guilt and the need to atone- he helped build the Calamity weapon, he was a part of the corrupt and decadent society and he embodies much of their flaws. He desperately hopes to use the Bastion to fix everything, despite not believing in gods, but also part of his Caelondian nature is to be harshly punitive- the Caelondians do not believe in gods- because with their power and technology, they feel themselves to BE gods, and the calamity was their Gottdammerung. The Bastion was that loaded gun, but the prejudices and biases of the Caelondian people was also a loaded gun.

Bastion is a fun isometric game from Supergiant. It's on Steam and I highly recommend it for the story, the atmosphere, the music and the gameplay.
